So, would you rather have 6 rounds of 45acp in a 625JM or 8 rounds of 357 mag in a 627? Or maybe 6 rounds of 44 special or mag in a 629?

excuse my ignorance, but what does DC refer to? I assume you don't mean the District of Columbia...

I have both an 8x357 and N-Frame in 45 ACP. Both are excellent. I think it comes down to the caliber you prefer.
327 Advantages:
8 shots
357 Magnum/38 Spl. versatility
Variety of features
Moonclips (but can be flimsy, so get good ones)
625 Advantages:
Moonclips are robust and very fast reloads
45 ACP -- many good loads
Heavier bullet and can go higher than 230 grains
45 Auto rim for moonclipless shooting and custom reloading

Also consider the new Model 27. Lew Horton offers one with a 3.5" barrel and a whole bunch of features. The other Model 27's don't have these custom features and would cost a lot to install.

I'm wondering how that's going to hold up to future challenges with Scalia's "in common use" emphasis in the majority opinion. However, it will probably take some time to get those cases pushed through; so I'll play along.
I'll take the six rounds of moon clipped 45 ACP in the 625JM. Short cases on moon clips going into big charge holes equal a very fast revolver reload - I can only imagine that's why Mr. Miculek himself shoots a 625 when he can get any S&W revolver he wants. Another reason I like 45 ACP is the low operating pressure because it reduces muzzle flash & blast. Outside the poll though the 325 Night Guard would be my choice of current production .45 ACP revolvers from S&W.
For those wanting a big bore in the easier handling L Frame size S&W is also offering the 396 Night Guard, a 5 shot .44 Special.

I think either the M627 or M625 would be a good choice but I voted for the M627 because I like a .357 Magnum with 8 rounds.

I have both, the 627 & 625JM. The latter reloads much faster. I keep some spare moonclips loaded.

Fenty was on TV this morning and they asked him about the laws. He FULLY expects to get sued. He was very matter-of-fact about it.

I'm not sure if you're prepared...well...maybe if the zombies invade or something.
However, beware of those DC gun laws! They may claim your gun is "assembled without immediate need for self-defense" since those moon clips are loaded!

BTW, chamfering and smoothing out the charge holes is a MUST for fast moon clip reloads! My M27 came chamfered and it's REALLY nice! My 625 didn't have chamfered holes and sometimes one round would hang up on one hole, boogering up the process. Once I had S&W chamfer them, reloads go like clockwork.
The LH M27, for around $1000, gets you:
1) Ball detent lockup on the front of the crane
2) Trigger job
3) Trigger stop
4) Wide trigger
5) Chamfered charge holes
6) Checkered topstrap
7) Grip serrations on the front and back straps
8) Way bitchin' cool 3.5" barrel and old style underlug

Actually, here is my 3.5yr old 625JM and my 1.5mo old 627 Pro - both ~$700-$720 locally - and in the '08 S&W Catalog. Yeah, ILs, but they also have spring-loaded front sights (Mine sport HiViz.), a modicum of a trigger job (S&W grinds the strain screw!), eased ejector star entries for fast reloads, moonclip ready, etc. The .45 ACPs spoil you re reloading - aligning the eight spider legs of the 627's 'clips is more troublesome. Great bargains - and available today!

Although I formerly would have chosen 8 shots of 357 over 6 shots of 45acp, that would not now be the case. For home defense, I would prefer six shots of 45acp in a moon-clip fed revolver by far. Bigger bullet, lower pressure, subsonic, very fast dumping of empties and reloading. The only weakness with moon clips is if one were to get bent but in a revolver made ready for home defense that should not be an issue.
