I've been running tests on various loads using the outstanding Lapua D166 bullet. It's a very nice shooter, but finding just the right powder and charge has proven difficult. I originally expected Vhit's N140 would be the best, since other reports suggest it's the closest powder to the one used for the original military load. I have to question whether this is true, because it gave some pretty iffy results. The best was a 2" group at fifty with a very hot 46 grains N140.

After going through powders I usually use for heavier thirty cals, I decided to try my old stalwart IMR 4064. With a hot 44 grain charge, it hit right on the money at fifty, and with some minor aim adjustments I marched them down to the bullseye. The group would have been tighter but that small red dot wasn't showing up clear enough for my 40 year old eyes. I'll make some more and try them, but these results look very promising

Rifle was the 1970 M39.

Anyone else have loads worked up for these?
