D2 Boker Strikes are back for under $50

The reviews were not that great. Too bad, as I'd like a nice-ish D2 folder.

Where are these made?

I suspect from what I read that they start life without springs in Germany and springs are dropped into them when they get here. That's why some of the reviews are about loose pivots and springs jumping out of the channel on about 10%. Boker did this originally with their Top Lock knives turning them into Speed Lock knives in the US.

The pivot screws and the clip scream China. Plus, I'm not aware of any knives in the Boker Plus line that are made in Germany. The Plus line seems to be mostly Chinese made models, and maybe a few made in Taiwan.

Boker´s German website states that Boker Plus knifes are concepted, designed and constructed in Solingen Germany (Boker mothership), but produced in "Europe, The USA and Asia".
Surely none on the Boker Plus line products are manufactured in Solingen/ Germany.
So QC might vary from German standards.
(The three Boker Plus knife I got myself were a pretty good, very solid standard, but not a display of highest level craftmanship...well, they are the budget line, so one cant expect that anyway. Steel treatment seems to be spot on all the knives I have, but of course "three" is not a statistically relevant number.)

Greetings
Carsten

Just a WAG but if I were importing knives from another country into a country where that type of knife was prohibited, I would make sure it was not the type of knife that was prohibited. If after importation it was modified to work in a different way, at least the original manufacturer would not be implicated.

The customs rule has been "or easily converted" which typically means you can't just drop a spring in and you're now an auto. That's what got Boker into trouble with the "Top Lock" since we'd just take them apart and drop a spring in to make a "Speed Lock". ;)

Has anyone received a Strike in a box with an intact seal? At least one reviewer noted broken seal, and mine was slit as well. No complaints from me regarding quality or function, but just thought it unusual.

Customs, or perhaps the retailer checking functionality before shipping?

Nope. As stated already these are converted to auto after coming into the US which explains the open seal and occasional loose fasteners you read about in the comments on them. Switchblades can't be legally imported into the US so conversion has to be made here of the knives.
