An angry dad shoots his angry daughter's laptop nine times with his angry .45 (no, weapons are not good or evil, just misunderstood).

What are your thoughts on this fellas/ladies?

On the one hand, the Luddite in me jumps with joy at shooting quality electronics (I have a printer that has my .357's name on it).

And I can get that parents are fed up and don't have any recourse or venting of anger.

But somehow this video bothers me as much as I can see myself doing the same thing if I were in a similarly frustrating situation.

p.s. Seems like a waste of "exploding" hollowpoints... for a computer you'd want FMJ's or soft points

Your feelings?

I have mixed feelings about it, I suppose in the end FMJ would have been my choice.

I've been reading some comments on this here and there. The people that are in support of it sometimes have other suggestions he could've done, like give the computer away to a person in need or sell it etc. etc.

I think he did a sensational job. Sometimes kids these days don't pay attention unless something is done "sensational." He could've handled this situation lots of different ways. But the most important thing is that he did something.

I see too many parents that just take abuse and disrespect from their kids and just shrug their shoulders and go on with life. This is probably the main source of my job security because such kids end up in contact with law enforcement.

I applaud this man and exactly how he handled himself and his actions.

I'm in the applaud camp. For some reason kids today - and this includes my 10-year old - just aren't getting it unless the result is major-league serious. Grounding, losing privilege, etc., just don't reach her core. When I pawned her radio to the pawn shop and it cost her 2x the money to buy it back, that got her attention...for a while.

Of course, this video is going to spawn the inevitable, "What bullet construction for a laptop" thread. :neener:

I have been told that a laptop screen will stop most SD handgun rounds and that if possible to duck behind one in case of an office type shooting. Don't think I'd want to have to test it out in real life tho.........

I've been thanked by clerks in 2 stores, in the last 2 weeks now. They've caught me making a "corner" anywhere I need one.

Apparently people not letting their kids run Amok is now so rare that it merits open appreciation.

My kids are also nearly fully potty trained at age 2, saves hundreds on diapering costs. Just takes (gasp) paying attention to them.

I would have sold the laptop for Gun money though. They depreciate far less than computers.

The addition of Tannerite would have made the video better. But the same end result. Props to him.

So many people are going to start yelling " he's gotta gun, oh my goodness he's gotta gun, and threatening a child with it" and so many people will start the banter of how detrimental it is to actualy restrain your child and make them productive citizens. A lot of gun lovers are going to be shaking their heads saying to themselves " this guy has really stirred up the turd bowl today". I am glad he has stirred it up. Because we as Americans and parents, we should shadow this guy and his philosophy. But we don't because we are afraid of the bickering whine storm that comes from the unemployed liberal left every time anyone does anything that goes against the hippie slogan, " if it feels good, do it". All I can say is WOW!!. Great job Dad! Yeah, you stirred up some controversy, but what this country has failed to remember is this..........If you have a fightnight poster with this pissed off dad on the left and the bickering flock of chicks from the "View" on the right, who are you going to call and place your money on? My bookie is putting it all down on the dad. But even though we have the backbone, courage, and guns, we still let these unarmed, petite walking mouths intimidate us into keeping our mouths shut. (How did I get to ranting about this again?)

Bad Parenting, if you have let things get to a point to where you have to use a gun to make a point to a child you shouldn't be calling yourself a parent.
You have lost that right, you are just an idiot with an out of control situation.
I would suggest some counseling for him as well as the child.

Of course he could kill the child and set the house on fire like that man did the other day. That would settle the issue...wouldn't be surprised if that was his next move.

He is just a stupid man being rewarded with 15 minutes of fame for being stupid.

If he thinks shooting a teenager's computer is how you put an end to teenage rebellion I'm guessing he won't be getting the reaction he's expecting.

I'm all for setting ground rules and enforcing them, but this is obnoxious.

Just my humble opinion.

Over kill? Maybe.

Waste of ammo? Certainly.

Lesson learned? Probably not.

Fun to watch? A little.

Over kill? - Absolutely not, he wanted to shoot all the ammo in the mag and completed his mission. Therefore, I don't see overkill, I see mission complete. I just wished he knew how many rounds he had before he started the mission.

Waste of ammo? - See my over kill response.

Lesson learned? - Only time will tell.

Fun to watch? - IMO - yes.

I had been thinking of posting this a few days ago when it came out (i was in the first 200 to watch it) but decided against it. It scared me, my dad might do the same thing with his 9mm lol.

Mixed but positive feelings.

On one hand, shooting somebody's laptop and making them pay for all the replacement stuff and software and ammo is something I would consider seriously harsh. On the other hand, I am now an adult and realize now that thanks to my parents demanding effort and excellence from me, that I am coping with going to college, holding a job, and making everything work a lot better than most of the people I know. They think this is hard. The hard part comes later; this is just an extra training stage. I wish that a lot more parents could do discipline like that instead of confining their kid to their room until supper time, and have game consoles in their room. That's like a $200 suite at the Hyatt.

My thoughts on this matter were somewhat different, first I noticed his shot placement was mostly near the center, this made me wonder if the computer's hard drive survived as they are often near the corners, second I wondered if he had removed the battery (due to issues with a breached Lithium Ion battery, like catching on fire when exposed to moisture), and perhaps the other removable components, hard drive, memory, etc. I also think he should have given the computer back to his daughter when done with it.

Go back and listen to that letter she posted on face book. You tell me how you would handle an obviously out of control brat, take away her drugs, maybe make her take off her lip and nose ring, how about stand her in the corner and read Dr. Suess to her! You undoubtedly are full of condemnation for him but sorely lacking in a solution. I hope you aren't a parent that will turn such a mal adjusted child loose on society without attempting to teach her the consequences of her behavior.
