Got an RCBS had priming tool, figured I had had enough fun with the primer arm on my old RCBS RS single stage. Ah, but i had overlooked one teensey detail. See, I love RCBS gear, except thier dies. I always use Lee dies...and Lee shellholders won't work on the RCBS plastic dealiebob inside the hand tool. Looked at the box, and there it is, in green on white, "Uses standard RCBS shell holders - the same ones used on RCBS presses."
Dagnabbit, they want me to buy all new shellholders? Looks like this will gather dust until then...

I've always liked handheld priming units over a press mounted primer arm. I started with the Lee unit which worked pretty well although, guess what, it takes it's own special shell holders.

Then I got the RCBS hand prime tool. It's a bit more nicely made than the LEE and uses standard (to me anyway:p) RCBS shellholders. It takes more disassembly to change shellholders though and the priming punch will fall right out if you let it. When I'm done priming, I place the punch inside the primer tray and secure the lid with a rubber band. So far that system is working.

Still looking for the perfect tool.

I load with all kinds of primer systems. I like my safety prime II for loading on a press. I have another Lee ram prime tool. I load with an RCBS Universal holder hand primer and I prime alot with my 3 Dillons ( 2 x XL650's, 1 x 550B) but priming on the Dillon presses is just for Pistol brass and 223 only. I use my Safety Prime more than anything for priming my rifle brass. Works great with less effort and extremely fast. The RCBS is close second but after 100 pcs, I need to take a break.

hope this is not stoopid kwestion, but have you actually tried using your shell holders? Methinks they are just tryiing to push their own name with that piece of paper touting their products.

just a thought...but then I"m still waiting for the koffee to kick in. :)

Yes, SASS, I did try them, they do not fit. I would never have noticed the writing on the box if I hadn't been cussing the tool out...

I have a Lee shellholder that will not work in my RCBS hand primer either. I guess it must be a "red box" one.

I use my Lee auto prime for everything, I just drop the extra two bucks for the special shell holder when I get a set of dies for a new caliber.
I've been thinking about trying one of the Lee ram priming things though. Either that or just say to heck with it and get a full on progressive press.

Maybe Not So Dagnabit Afterall !!

I have used the RCBS hand prime tool for over 5 years and unless they changed something my Lee holders work just fine with both the large and small primer adaptors in the dozen or so various calibers I load for in rifle as well as pistol cartriges. It is a snap to change from one to another load as long as you dont put more primers in the feeder tray than you are going to use at a time . what a pain trying to put them back in the trays as you have to use tweezers cuz you arent supposed to handle them with bare fingers as we are apparently a greasey bunch of characters and may contaminate the primers. I guess I figured if the Lee holders fit my Rockchucker then they must fit the primer tool too and didnt read their disclamer . 10 SPOT
