I'm fairly new to reloading, I have been reloading mainly 38 special & some 357. I'm looking to buy 9mm, .40, and .45 dies and shellplates. My press is a single stage Rockchucker, since the RCBS dies are on sale on midwayusa.com I intend to purchase them. I have a RCBS hand priming tool and a Lee saftey hand priming tool as well. Midway also sells a 11-pack of Lee shellholders for the most common calibers for around $15, but they appearantly will not work with my hand priming tools from what the reviews said. Currently I use a RCBS shell plate for loading and priming currently, so I'm assuming RCBS shellplates are compatible for the press and hand priming tool. I am looking at the RCBS dies over the Lee dies, because the RCBS does all necessary steps in 3 dies vs. Lee taking the 4.

What is the most cost effective way to buy a shellplate(s) for loading and hand priming? If I should go with the Lee dies, would the shellplate that comes with it be compatible with the hand priming tools?

Thanks, Ryan

Not sure about the RCBS, but my Lee hand primer tool uses special shellholders...its a pain to have to keep up with ANOTHER set of shellholders but at least they're cheap enough.

Lee Hand Prime and "proprietary" shell holders are like 8 and 11$.

I wasn't much for the special shellholders. But the system as a whole works great. I prefer to prime by hand for rifle, but still prime on press for pistol.

I like both brands of dies. RCBS precision is better. Lee o-ring is mixed bag, but can't beat the price.

I am still undecided about the whole crimp thing. But I don't shoot semi-auto much.
