This Saturday, June 16 is the Dallas Mayoral Runoff election. We have two choices:

Tom Leppert (Rep) - TSRA "A" Rated based on his questionairre answers, former executive at Turner Construction (a subsidiary of Turner Broadcasting)

Ed Oakley (Dem) - Did not return a questionairre. Three time City Councilman who recently was caught trying to steal a Dallas business that had existed since 1938. Oakley encouraged the business to accept a proposed rezoning that would have added restrictions that would have closed the business at that location and forced the family to sell. After the outrage became palpable at the city council meeting, he flipped and voted against the rezoning he had encouraged the property owner to consider.

Right now, the two candidates are neck and neck (Leppert 47%, Oakley 45% with a margin of error of 6%).

Current Mayor Laura Miller has joined Dallas to Mayor Bloomberg's anti-gun coalition as well as pushed legislation banning toy guns in the city and other idiocy. Who knows what she is doing behind the scenes to push that agenda via pension funds in companies, city contracts and related methods? We have a fairly clear choice here this Saturday, let's make sure the right guy gets elected.

None that I am aware of; but always worth checking your county election site as a lot of the local elections don't get much play in the news.

Election is tomorrow. If you missed early voting last week, this is you last chance to have a say in whether Dallas continues to be part of Bloomberg's anti-gun coalition or we get a new mayor who will remove us from that group. Never mind what they are doing behind close doors to reduce your firearms rights.

I work in Dallas, but don't live there, so I can't vote.
But one ray of sunshine in however the election turns out.

Laura Miller will be GONE!!! So whatever role she might have played in
Boobberg's anti-gun idiocracy will hopefully be nought.

Walter

I am glad that I don't have to make that choice. I live far from Dallas.
From a quick look at the candidates and some of the issues, you have an unfortunate choice between Evil or Evil. It is hard to say from my perspective which evil is best for you.
Too bad there is not another choice.

And has won! Way to go Dallas! (hey, I got to use a line from a movie!)

"Mr. Oakley has long prided himself on a robust grassroots campaign operation, and he carried the runoff vote in nine of Dallas' 14 council districts. But his margins of victory in most were relatively narrow, and he won only about three-fifths of the vote in District 3 – hardly a strong showing in the very southern-sector council district he represents.

Conversely, Mr. Leppert routed Mr. Oakley in the five northern districts he won, capturing no fewer than two-thirds of ballots cast in Districts 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13.

Voter turnout in the runoff was up about one-fifth over the general election. "

I was reading the paper yesterday the liberals were blaming the loss on the lack of acceptance of homosexuals in Texas. Not a word about the issues, just the homosexual card.
