Nope ... don't have gas .... well, not too much!:p

It was tho pretty warm today and so, not wanting to shed my P95 in place of summer snubby, just yet ..... got thru most of the day with just a lighter shirt.

But .... parking lot problems!! Got out of truck, and as i turned to shut door ..... gust of wind lifted shirt way up ...... exposing the piece.

Doubt very much anyone saw it but ... I do not like that, being ''caught out''.

I do put a hand in pocket strong side once walkin .... that takes care of things but ... just now and again .. this wind problem crops up.

What does everyone else do .... without seeming to be too self conscious!?

You should've been here today. 45-50 mph winds, gusts to 70. Ah, Kansas.

Try using a snugly fit undershirt untucked and bloused over the piece.

that would at least cover you up long enough to let you compose your wind-ruffled wardrobe properly ;)

Get hold of a very lightweight vest, such as those sold for IDPA by Smith & Alexander (see http://www.smithandalexander.com/apparel.html). I wear them all the time, and even on the hottest and most humid days, they're light enough to be bearable. Open the seam at the bottom of the vest, and insert a length of lightweight chain, such as you can buy from a hardware store to attach a plug to a bath, or something like that. Tack the chain to the cloth every couple of inches, to prevent it bunching up. Re-sew the bottom seam, and you're done. The extra weight of the chain will prevent the vest blowing around in light to medium winds: and in a heavy wind, any concealment garment would blow around, chain or no, so you're no worse off than you would be with a down jacket! :D

You just have to learn to let go... :p

Evil Evil Wind is the biggest problem with summer carry. I could carry any of my handguns year round if it weren't for the summer wind.

Nothing hides better than a smaller gun.

P11 for me.

LOL craigz. I hate all these CCW vests :D .

Just my own fashion sense I imagine, but I'm always the only guy in just a Tshirt where I shoot.

sorry guys, but those vests are a dead giveaway when someone is wearing one. on a 95 degree day with shorts, and a photographer's vest, you might as well wear a big "I HAVE A CONCEALED WEAPON ON ME!" sign. try and IWB, at least it hides the bottom half of your gun. also try wearing an udershirt that is the same color as your handgun. in the event thant is is accidentally exposed, it doesn't stand out against a backgroundof a different color.

the only time i know of that i was exposed, someone got a picture of it! i was pre-flighting an airplane, up on a ladder, checking the fuel, and my cousin (who is also a pilot and CCWer) was taking pictures just as a gust of wind blew my shirt up. what are the odds!? sure enough, when he got the picture developed there was my gun exposed, up on a ladder, in the middle of an open ramp. luckily, nobody else was around an no one saw, but he an i. even though exposed, it is still hard to see because my undershirt and sweatshirt were both black, and so is the gun and holster.

what bob said. whether you care or not if anybody knows you're carrying, it draws attention to yourself and that's always bad. and they're just plain ugly.

So? If it doesn't show, it's legally concealed. If it worries a few criminals, who cares?

That's what I was about to say.
The only people who know are other CCW holders, (Who cares.) criminals (Good, they won't mess with you and yours if they're smart.), and LEO types, (They shouldn't really care either, but sometimes they look nervous.).
Thet being said, if I were a LEO type dude, it would behoove me to be at least aware enough to be nervous around people who are armed, too.

"criminals (Good, they won't mess with you and yours if they're smart"

OR

you could be the first one taken out because they know you're carrying. :uhoh:

I've worn vest (photographer, 'tactical', whatever) year round for at least the last 15 years. Carrying or not. People are used to seeing me dressed this way.

When walking the dog I wear a fanny pack, with no gun in it.. Do you really think everybody sees me and says "that guy is packing"? What with a fanny pack and a vest, gosh I must be.

As far as I can tell it's only other packers that even suspect.

i agree with DontShootMe. by letting a potential criminal know you are armed, it will either scare the criminal away (good), or make you numero uno on the hit list and a priority target for the criminal. do you want to draw fire on yourself? your family next you? i'm not willing to take that chance. it is called concealed carry for a reason. its not called, gun not visible but everyone knows anyway carry, for a reason. Conceal means, by definition, to hide or keep secret. in states that allow concealed carry, criminals NOT knowing who is armed is a benefit to everyone. the main benefit of not knowing for sure if someone is armed is that it forces badguys to assume that anyone COULD be armed.

and by the way, why in the world would a LEO feel the need to be nervous around someone who is legally carrying? thats silliness.

the reason for concealed carry is not to be technically concealed, but allowing others to know by "accidentally" uncovering your firearm when reaching for your wallet or whatever to cause others around you to fear you. that can be construed as intimidation and/or brandishing. this is straight form the mouth of a 30 year LEO that is one of my customers whom i had to tell that he was flahing all over the place and making my customers nervous. he is obviously exempt to some extent from prosecution, after all what am i going to do? report him to the police?

the point is, just because you are technically or legally concealed, doesn't mean you are being smart about it.
