Dan Wesson 22lr Revolvers

What is the concensus on these guns?

Also any issues on the new NVI ones vs. the older ones?

I am thinking about buying one but I have not found much info about them. It would just be a plinker to go with my 5 screw k-22.

I had one for about 15 years. Great gun, verry accurate, pretty good trigger (after a spring swap).

Just sold it last month, right after buying my 1st K-22.

Thanks for the info. Like you I really like my 5 screw k-22, but they are hard to find, and I would like to send mine up to S&W for a complete rebuild and re-finish. I would like to try and get it back to factory new look (I bought it used and the prior owner was not as meticulous as myself).

I have one that's about 14 years old. It sometimes amazes me how nice and accurate of a gun it is. It got me into long distance handgunning. Hitting the 12" gong or a big black 6" circle at 100 yards drove me to practice more and more.

Though I bought mine used, it came with an excellent trigger that is definately under 3 pounds. Took some getting used to as the only other handgun I had at the time was a stock 1991A1 that had about a 8 pound pull.

Would never EVER get rid of this gun.

Very good shooters.

Mine is an older Monson, Mass. Model 22. Have the 4 and 8 inch full underlug barrels for it. The 8 inch sure gets muzzle heavy in a hurry. Purchased the gun used. Had the action and trigger tweaked a bit. This revolver is definately more accurate than I am. The blueing, fit and finish are second to none.
If your used to the DA pull of a S&W or Colt, the DW will take some getting used to. The action is quick, has a very different feel to it. Not bad, just different.
Like most .22's mine shoots best with certain brands of ammo. CCI Mini Mags and Stingers seem to work best but it shoots darn well with just about anything I feed it.
If you can find a used one they're usually a bargain. Check the end of the cylinder for rubbing. If the cylinder gap was improperly set by someone you'll see the witness marks. The wrench will cost about $25 from DW if not included with the gun.
I have shot a few of the NY manufactured Model 15 /715 and they are pretty good. The actions aren't as slick and trigger pulls as light as an early Monson gun, but lawyers will do that.

Well I went and bought it. My favorite number is 166 (I really do not know why) so look at the serial number. It has my name written all over it.

Used $407.50. I would guess maybe 500 rnds max down it. Probably more like 200 but it is hard to judge on stainless steel.

I posted a question regarding revolvers on the Dan Wesson section of 1911, but so far no answers. Did you get any other barrels for it at that price? Give us some info on the quality of the gun and how accurate it is. I have been wanting a .22 revolver and can't seem to find a K-22 locally. Have been considering one of the Dan Wesson .22's. I have an old Monson era .357 pistol pak. It is one of the ones without the full underlug, but after the exposed nut on the front was eliminated. It is an early model 15. Keep an eye out for older DW's made in Monson, they are good guns and generally pretty inexpensive.

It did not come with extra barrels, but they can be priced on the dan wesson web site in any option. I will let you know how it compares to a k22 here in a couple of hours. I am going shooting in about an hour so I will feel you in. Compared to my 5 screw my impressions are the following.

The DW has a lighter trigger pull, shorter DA trigger stroke, better sights, and smaller grips. The K22 "hangs" in the hand better, has better grips, is much smoother in DA and it feels smoother in operation. Both are 6" barrels so we shall see.

Funny you should mention this one, we just put a DW Silouhette Model up for sale on Guns America..it is single action with a 10 inch barrel.

I dont think I ever saw a DW 22 in my life before this one.

I have an old Monson model. Double action with 4 barrels. It's very accurate and extremely solid - built on the mid-sized .357 frame.
