My much anticipated Dan Wesson PM-9 arrived a few days ago and I finally had an opportunity to test it at the local range.

The mag’s I used consisted of two OE 9-round magazines, which were supplied with the pistol and manufactured by Checkmate Industries, and three aftermarket 10-round Tripp Research Cobra magazines with base pads.

Prior to my range visit I disassembled, cleaned and lubed the pistol. I normally use BF CLP on most of my pistols for lubrication however, like my CBOB, the slide/frame fit were somewhat tight, so I decided to use a little of Brian Enos’s Slide-Glide on the rails during reassembly.

There have been a few owner reported finish issues posted in other forums regarding small burrs found on the underside of the dust cover, which cause friction scratches on the bead blasted area as the slide cycles on the frame. During disassembly I inspected this area and there were no apparent issues. The finish looked very good on this pistol.

During the shooting session I put 200 rounds of assorted 115 grain FMJ through the pistol and there were absolutely no issues with the pistol or magazines. Everything functioned correctly, recoil was minimal given the weight of the pistol and the sights were easy to see and right on out of the box.

Regrettably, the pistol is more accurate than I am however that gives me something to work on during future range sessions. She’s definitely a keeper!

That is one beautiful gun - glad to hear your first "date" went well. May I ask what you paid for her? That baby might move to the top of my "next gun" list.

I have had mine for about 6 months now and like you say it is more accurate than me. It is my favorite pistol to shoot, recoil almost feels like a .22 and it is one beautiful pistol. My slide fells like it is running on ball bearings when I rack it. I did have do send mine back to CZ for repairs after my first range trip, it was not locking the slide open on a empty mag most of the time and it failed to return to battery 2 times. CZ handled it well,
I got it back in about 3 weeks and it didn't have any problems the next time that I shoot it. Mine is a older model than yours, it has a solid trigger and doesn't have fiber sights, they were suppose to add them when they had the pistol for repairs but over looked my request, I was a little disappointed in that. After seeing your post I think I will go shoot it this rainy weekend. Nice picture, it is a beautiful pistol.

Congratulations. That's a beautiful gun. I wanted one of those for a while, but heard that they only produce 30 or 40 a year, so I sort of gave up.

Did you have to order it through your gun store? How long did you wait?

Good luck with it.

Thanks wbwanzer.

I purchased this one through whittakerguns.com. CZ DW normally make limited manufacturing runs (20-50) of this pistol each year, but this year availability appears to be reasonably good and more abundant than usual. This is the third batch Whittaker has received this year. Makes me wonder if they increased production given the cost and availability of 9mm vs. .45 ACP ammunition in general. I happened to stumble across this one when they were in stock however you could probably ask them to add you to a waiting list at which point they would contact you when one becomes available. I believe that CZ Custom also has/had some in stock.

Thank Red rick. Glad to hear that they took care of your PM9 issues and you're ready to go. I recall looking at your version a year or two ago and wishing I had one. They were much scarcer to find back then. Enjoy your session today. :)

Very nice looking 1911!!!

Where's the target pics?

Thanks. Sorry, none this time out. My focus was more on reliability and function this first time out. Next session, I’ll concentrate on accuracy. ;)

I've had my PM-9 a year and a half now. All I shoot in it is my inexpensive cast lead reloads and I've put a few thousand down the pipe so far and it performs wonderfully.
On a good day I can put a 10 shot group size of the bottom of a Coke can on paper @ 25yds.

You won't find a better 9mm pistol for the money that's for sure.
