Dark outside and blinds open with lights on

I typically keep my shades closed when its dark outside primarily because of privacy, but now I'm thinking that it is almost more important for security reasons.

I was born and raised in the South Bronx. I thought everyone knew this info to be common knowledge. Funny what one takes for granted based on personal experiences.

Even in broad daylight you should be aware. In the afternoon, if it's brighter inside the house than the shade outside your window, it's pretty easy to see inside. You can play with the blinds to reflect the outside light and make it hard to see through the window.

I almost never have my blinds open at night, even during Christmas. It amazes me how many people keep their blinds open at night with their lights on. A complete security risk. You're literally in a one-way fishbowl. Criminals can see in easily and from a distance, even while staying hidden. Heck, they can take pictures and stake out your entire home. Worst case, someone could easily pop you ...

Also, I have insulated blinds so in the winter and summer it's more economical from a heating/cooling standpoint...

I'll open my blinds at night if there are no lights on in the room, but I close them any other time. I hate feeling like someone can be watching.
