Dating an old A-5

Anyone have an idea about this serial number?

I checked Browning's chart and it didn't help me much. It's a 16 Ga. It was passed down to me from my Grandad, so I don't plan tp sell it...I'm just curious about how old it is.

My thoughts are it is a 1927 production...contacting Browning customer service may be your best bet however.

I think you're right with 1951 ..... because of the "X" in front of the number. If it were not for that "X" it would check out as much older.

It does have the forward saefty, the old vertical screws in the receiver, and a roller hammer..... that lead me to figure it was prewar
 
I think flowers would be approriate for the 1st time out. Her dad knows how to grow 'em so be careful you don't fall for one of the sisters too. ::D
