I'm looking for a way to find out how old my S&W model 41 is. Is there somewhere to get the information? I looked on S&W's website but they charge 30$ USD to get the info in a letter. Is there an online resource? My serial # starts with TBZxxxx. Any help would be appreciated.

According to my Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 2nd Ed. (Supica and Nahas 2001) your Model 41 falls within the following:

1988 TBL7955-TCB4082

Best regards,

Dave (nitesite)

Nice pistol, BTW. What ammo do you shoot? If in doubt I think I can help.

The $30.00 buys you a letter from S&W Company Historian, Roy G. Jinks with a general history of the model, along with the specific details of your individual gun. To get this requires researching the old shipping records, and the fee is reasonable considering that another well-known company charges $100.00 and more for the same service.

A phone call to S&W's Customer Service Department will get you the year that it was made, but no additional information.

There are books that will list the year, or more often a number of years during which a gun was made. I don't know of any web-site database that covers all the different models.

Somewhere in this is the answer to your question... :)
