I am in Dayton, Ohio for the Dayton Hamvention.

I gave up recently trying to find 2 Sig556 SWATs and a Kahr MK40 Elite locally at home in South Florida. The one guy that has the Sigs is charging an arm, leg, right eyeball (including the optic nerve), spleen, my girlfriend, first born child, and the rubber band ball I've been working on since I was 5 years old on top of a large wad of cash that would make Bernie Madoff blush for them - and that's if he gives you a discount. I was ok with everything but the cash. Money is a little tight because my cats seem to be an endless money pit (but they're so fuzzy and warm to the touch).

Anyways, moving on, nobody has a Kahr MK40 Elite in the South Florida tri-county area and the distrubutors for them are out. Can't blame Obama or anybody for that one. I agree with members here that it's probably just because Kahr is pumping out polymer pistols instead of the K or MK line.

I was going to move on to the Orlando market and call around before possibly driving the 3 hour drive... BUT... I happen to be up here in Dayton anyways as of today and it dawned on me to check out some local gun stores and possibly buy from them if they've got them or can get them, and do a transfer to an FFL in Florida or whatever I need to do to legally purchase them.

Anyways, I looked through Google and came up with a few gun stores, but don't know anything about them. If you know anything about them, or can recommend more, or better ones, let me know.

Here's what I've written down on a hotel sticky pad:

Vandalia Range & Armory
100 Corporate Center Drive
Vandalia, OH 45377
937-387-0485

Gunsport
59 S Main St
Centerville, OH 45402
937-435-3610

Dayton Armory
3297 Seajay Dr.
Beavercreek, OH 45430
937-429-2606

Arms Depot Gun Shop
746 Watervliet Ave
Dayton, OH 45420
937-253-4883

Vandalia Tactical
312 North Dixie Drive
Vandalia, OH 45377
937-264-8432

I also will be visiting the Air Force Museum tomorrow at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, so maybe some recommendations for shops around there would be good too. Thanks :) I'm trying to take lemons and make lemonade.

Also, to help show whereabouts I am staying - to make it easier to recommend shops - here is more or less where I am.

ETA: Oh, and last, if you're going to be at the Dayton Hamvention and want to meet up just to chat or for a cup of coffee, hit me up with a PM. I will post tomorrow night what frequency I'll be on that I can be reached via 2M. I only brought a 2M HT, I left my quad band stuff at home because I figured if Homeland Security was going to ruin a radio while searching my bags, I at least wouldn't be terribly upset if it was just my cheap 2M HT.

That was classic:D Now would you please clean up the coffee that shot out of my nose when I read it?

Dayton stores

I am on my blackberry, so please forgive my short reply. Of the ones you mentioned, I think Old English is the largest and has the widest selection. It is a nice store. It sits almost right next to the interstate, but you have to take a mile jog from the exit to get to it.

The Vandalia Armory is much closer to the Hamvention site, and it has a really nice indoor range attached.

Two more you might check out are Peabody Sports (Peabodysports.com) on Wilmington Ave. in Kettering, and the Gander Mountain in Huber Heights which is a few miles east of I-75 on I-70.

If you don't mide driving about 45 minutes south you could try Target World in the northern part of Cincinnati.

They have a pretty large selection, you could always just call them to find out if they have what you're looking for. If so, it's an easy drive down I-75 from where you are now

Good luck

Thanks. I found Peabody last night, but dismissed it because the information I found on it seemed to suggest it was an accessories, FFL transfer, and gunsmithing gig rather than a gun shop. I'm glad I was wrong. I'll write that down now.

Hmmm. It's supposed to rain today and I'm not sure I want to drive too far from the area in the rain. I'll call them and see what they want. If Gander Mountain by any chance has anything I am looking for, that would be super easy because they could transfer it to their store back in South Florida for me to purchase more easily than a transfer. I wrote it down too.

I havent been there in years but old english in vandilia has a HUGE selection of firearms.I've found several guns in stock there that no one else had in stock. be warned though, they are the highest priced shop around (or was ).

as an aside, my last encounter with them was about 9 yrs ago, i dropped off two glock pistols(both bought there) to get NY2 triggers installed, left them there TWO weeks, went to pick them up,the fat guy behind the counter(owners son i heard) said he couldnt get the parts to do it and gave them back untouched. i packed a lousy .380 amt for two weeks for nothing! lol
so i ordered the parts off the net, and found installation instructions and did it myself , it was easy but i dont like to fool with mechanics of guns as i dont know anything about that. havent spent a dime there sence. :cuss:

I regularly make the drive to Olde English Outfitters. Nice selection of everything and approachable and knowledgeable sales people. Its a little tricky to find so make sure you have good directions.

There is also a Gander Mountain off of I-70. Its the first exit east of I-75.

You'll be blown away at the Air Force Museaum if you are any kind of aviation buff. Check out there Imax theatre. Its the only thing that you'll pay for there.

Enjoy your stay.

+1 on Olde English. Very helpful staff, alot of selection.
Gander may be worth a look.
Thumbs down on Target World. Over-priced on about everything. If only someone else can build an indoor range around Cincinnati for the winter months!
Further east of Cincinnati is Shooter's Supply Shop, 513-683-2911.
Call first, though.
I have bought probably 6 guns from them in the past couple years, all good experiences.

Hi, There is a Sportsman's warehouse just off I-70 one exit east of I-75. I think its Hubberville. Don't know about selection.

I called all the stores and 3 had Sig 556 SWATs. Only 2 were asking semi reasonable prices for them.

When I got to one, I noticed that it was scratched up (so much for the claim that it was NIB) and that it was the old SWAT version with just the collapsible stock, not the collapsible-folding stock.

I called the other and they had the same one.

Too bad. I was all set to put a deposit down and do a transfer to an FFL in Florida. The prices weren't as bad as in South Florida, but with the exception of one, they were above MSRP.

When I called the LGS in South Florida they kept arguing that I couldn't buy guns from another state and have them shipped to them for transfer, because I'm not a resident of that state, and that I'd be breaking federal law by paying money for a gun not in the state of Florida.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's perfectly legal to purchase a gun in another state, so long as I don't take possession in that state and it is shipped to an FFL in the state of my residence to do the proper transfer and paperwork. Isn't it?

I'm just going to give up on the EBRs for the moment until I declare residency in Minnesota and can purchase up there. If I can find a Kahr MK40 Elite in the state of Florida before I leave, that's great. If not, I'll deal with it.

Thanks for the help though guys.

Try B&W Enterprises AKA "BWeaponcraft".

601 Ridgedale Rd
Dayton, OH 45406

Dale Borts 937-279-0659

This is the guy/FFL that has had the largest ammount of tables at gunshows in Ohio I have been to and they are all of the EBR variety.

Also Vance's Shooting Supply in Columbus is not too far away and they have shamed EVERYBODY else in the biz as far as keeping EBRs and ammo in stock during Obamamania.

I'll look into that. Right now I'm looking into possibly ordering from a Texas based store.

As for the store with AKs, I haven't a clue.

I found out today that the Arms Depot Gun Shop is no longer a full gun shop and is only C&R stuff. Supposedly they let their license expire.

I did more calling than actual visiting. I don't really need to window shop with guns. I just need to find a place with what I want right now to order from.

I'm pretty sure that's okay. I mean, isn't that what people do all the time when they're buying firearms from GunBroker? I don't see why it would matter if you're paying from your home with a credit card, or mailing a check, or pulling cash our of your pocket and giving it to the person. You're paying them for the firearm, and then it gets sent to an in-state FFL. I don't see what would be wrong with that.
