DEA agent shoots himself...

He's an undercover DEA agent, or was. Would you be happier with the looks of an agent who resembles Howdy Duty? I don't think that looks matter personally, but do you think those kids would have been more positively impressed with a speaker who looked different. If so, how should the speaker appear?

Also, since when has an AD become something to joke about. I feel somewhat bad for the guy. He was obviously going to disassmble the gun and he checked the chamber (not good enough) and had someone else varify that it was empty (they didn't check well enough). He has to be a highly trained individual to work for the DEA, but anyone can make a mistake. He just happened to make a mistake in front of a camera and infront of an audience full of kids. The situation could not be more ironic. Thank God nobody was seriously hurt. I know that there have been hundreds of LEO's that have had ADs and most of them were probably very highly trained. Would you make fun of them or the situation in general? Why this guy? Easy target?

I'll admit he has made a bonehead move by going on talkshows and whatnot. Guess he should expect to be talked about now.

He said he was going to take the slide off and did the glock thing having to pull the trigger first but did not clear and check the chamber.Probally happens a lot more than people will admit.

If he is/was undercover agent that explains his "look". But, to me, he did seem to be a bit cocky in the way he was talking.

I was not making fun of him; just stating the way he seemed to me.

Anyone can have an ND. But, that is just like folk to screw up and then try to blame someone else. The American way, I guess.:banghead:

Bama61, I see what your saying about him seeming a bit cocky. "I'm probably the only one in this room professional enough to"...!BAM!.

Man...I still can't believe it happened like that! So freaking ironic it blows my mind!

He knew he was going into a classroom full of children to give a gun safety talk. Thats why he was at the school. Any gun he was going to use for the demonstration, should have been unloaded, double checked and secure before he went into the class room.

If it was his carry / duty weapon and needed to be loaded then it should have stayed put in his holster, and he should have used another weapon for demonstration purposes.

He is an idiot.

I don't know about that video

Anybody here ever fire a gun indoors with no hearing protection? It's pretty loud. Nobody else really reacted.

That guy doesn't need a sign, he needs a freakin billboard. What a moron.

Glock has recently had problems with the extractor in that model. In fact our State Police issue G22s have been recalled because of this malfuntion. I believe this particular agent was merly complacent. Overall Glocks have had a very good track record.

Now I know the detail of the situation

Hal800 posted the part that I did not hear or see in the news.
"Just saw him on O'Reilly. He said he shot himself in the upper thigh. The bullet hit the cartridge he had removed from the chamber that was in his pocket and deflected, just missing his femoral artery... He was very lucky!"

The round did not make a "direct" hit. That addresses my question about the power of that round.

I think most people on here are missing the point that someone at the DEA leaked that video to the public and that is why he is try to sue.

If a co worker put your sensitive info out there (a credit card or your social security number) for the whole world to see, you might try to sue too....

That an interesting observation. I was on an indoor range and inadvertantly took off my hearing protection while someone else was shooting.

It startled the hell out of me - and it was LOUD. I never did that again. :banghead:

I don't know how those folks didn't jump through the roof when he pulled the trigger on that gun.
