Just got this game for Christmas and can't put it down. Yeah, I know, video games - I'm not really into them but this one ROCKS. Pretty straightforward - kick-butt action, lots of cool weaponry.

Here's a quick rundown on the weapons:
*.45 and .50 automatics, one in each hand
*silenced Beretta 92s and M11s, one in each hand (full-auto M11)
*scoped S&W 629 44 magnum
*double barrelled sawed off SG, Spas12, and a full-auto SG (A-2?)
*AKM, M60, MP5, and M4 Carbine assault rifles, full-auto
*two sniper rifles with zoom scopes
*rocket and grenade launchers
*flamethrower
*attack dog that rips out throats on command (and retrieves the victim's weapons)

Gameplay is supurb:
*full contact hand to hand, punches, kicks, and throws
*when unarmed, your character can take weapons from enemies with really gruesome slow-motion disarm techniques
*slow-motion, Matrix-style attacks that let you empty full mags before ememies can react
*lots of blood-n-guts, head shots stop pretty much anyone
*puzzles to solve, really tough bosses
*interesting storyline with lots of twists and turns

I'm a long way off from beating this one. But as far as Matrix-gunplay games, this one rules. Merry Christmas!

I just got Rogue Spear for my birthday yesterday. I have only had a little time to play it, but I did manage to get my whole team killed ;) .

Gaming threads and movie threads....

It's hasn't really been discussed with the other Mods and threads like these tend to be "iffy", but we'll keep this one on as long as it sticks to it's "guns", like relating how accurate/innacurate the game's tactics are, are the weapons mechanics comparable to the real deal or do you never have to reload magazines, do video games make little kiddies self-proclaimed experts on real firearms ;) etc.

.. and as long as I don't come back to find twenty other gaming threads popping up like mushrooms.

is the .50 automatic a Desert eagle?

I'm currently boycotting games that feture desert eagles to shot my utter hatred for games that are uncreative enough not to feature something besides desert eagles.

****. I've seen this happen! Kids turning into 'gun experts' based on some crap game they played. You should see the counterstrike kiddies that think an AR-15 is charged by yanking the forward assist back.....

No kidding. There's literally hundreds of other makes and models of pistols. Why the hell are they obsessing over the DE?

It's pretty much a straightforward 1 player game.

The .45s, though, look like makarovs and the .50s look like CZ-52s. The 629 looks like a Taurus Tracker. Other than that, they're all pretty realistic.

There is no reloading on this game. You simply pitch the weapon when empty, and pick up another one - the New York Reload. It's pretty cool to watch as the character empties two pistols and snatches two more from his belt (you can carry up to four pistols), then empties them into three or four guys in one slow-motion Chow Yun Fat/John Woo-style dive.

Im crazy about SOCOM for PS2 right now. Online gameplay over fast internet. Replay value is way up there, very engaging. You have to be OK with the kill or be killed theme.

Haven't played this game, but Max Payne is a really good one....you can slow everything down to get some truly great John Woo moments.

There is a plethora of truly excellent gun games out there.

Rogue Spear.
Operation Flashpoint.
Ghost Recon.
No one lives forever 2.
Max Payne.
AvsP2.
GTAIII. (okay that is a stretch... but an awefully FUN stretch)
Soldier of Fortune 2.
Undying. (it has a pistol and a shotgun!)

I love a good game... The more realistic the better. Red Storm Entertainment is doing it up the best.

Is this the General Discussion area?

Please, Take the High Road and let it be.

I was just playing some Splinter Cell for the Xbox the other day, and then tried out the demo for the PC.... **** is that game badass. Puts the competition to shame, you should check it out if you like stealth combat type games.

I agree 100%. Splinter Cell is awesome. :D

But then again, all of Tom Clancy's "shooters" are awesome. Haven't played the PC Demo yet, what are the controls like?

I always thought they yanked the charging handle back in that game... does my memory fail me?

yeah, splinter cell was great. I especially liked the glowing green NVGs.

They got you out of the minefield, didn`t they? :D I found them useless for the door codes.

You can`t carry 47 guns at once. It `s so not realistic! And the pistol is crummy. You might have to shoot the BG 3 or 4 times. Gimme a D.E. anyday! Not to mention you have to control your breathing in sniper mode! Agh! Not many rounds so you can`t rock and roll from beginning to end. This game is so not gun friendly! A thinking person`s gun game? It`ll never sell.:D

I have played both Dead to Rights (on the Xbox) and Max Payne (demo on PC, but a cheat code to get all the guns). The firearms in Max Payne are better in my opinion, and the bullet-time control is much more useful/intuitive than in Dead to Rights.

Medal of Honor Frontline for PS2 is a great game. Depending on if you play it as a game or a simulator is up to you. Someone took a lot of time to figure out how what weapon works and the results of what round does what when a hit is made. Try playing it for real using just one gun(instead of switching as needed), you get a whole new perspective on things. :) Its a great game.

after reading this thread when it first started i ran out and rented dead to rights...

needless to say i'll be going out today to buy dead to rights....

I'm pretty nonplussed by the current crop of FPSen out there.

they're all pretty uncreative, and there are way more desert eagles, pistol grip only shotguns, M11s, and chromed berettas than i care for.

I defy you to find a non WWII FPS without any of those in it.

Operation Flashpoint for the PC. One of the best FPS games out there. You should try the Resistance add-on for OpFlash. Very cool, you are in a resistance to a Commie invasion and fight accordingly. Raiding Commie stuff, stealing weapons/equipment, sabotage, ambushes, oh my it has it all... And all with no desert eagles, pistol grip shotties, or chrome berettas... :)

I like the controls alot personally, I was having trouble with the Xbox stuff since I just cannot seem to get the hang of playing these types of games without the mouse and keyboard (it was a friends Xbox, I don't have one). Like any PC game you can setup all the buttons on the keyboard however you like, mouse moves your view, etc. Was working great for me, but maybe I'm missing something the Xbox control scheme does better?
