Buy one get one free

2002, I went to an sports/auto chain store in Oregon. Looking for spark plugs. Decided to check out the gun display. They had 2 Weatherby Mk V Ultralightweight rifles in the rack. The .270 was priced at $1275, the .30/06 was priced at $575. The only difference was the size of the hole in the barrel! Stainless fluted barrel, pillar bedded synthetic stock, the works. I asked the sales guy what the difference between the two was, and he said that the .270 was the new Ultralightweight and the /06 was "just a Mark V." So I bought the /06. Of course it scanned at $1275 but I only paid $575. I've taken 2 Rosy bulls, 2 mulies, and a Pronghorn with that rifle since.

S&W M696 no-dash, $300

Both of those back in 2000 in the same sleepy store.

An acquaintance at work traded for a NIB Bushmaster A2 20" HBAR from a dealer at a gun show. For some reason he became convinced that it was only a Bushmaster lower and some other upper although I told him he was wrong.

He said he knew it wasn't a Bushmaster because he couldn't get the barrel clean. That gray at the muzzle (chrome lining) wouldn't clean off. It was also inaccurate. I went with him to the range once when he was shooting his Arsenal AK at 100 yards. He was shooting a 24"x36" target and put 4 holes in it with a 30 round magazine. I don't know how he arrived at the claim that the AR was inaccurate. It certainly shoots well for me.

When he offered to sell the AR for $500 after putting 100 rounds through it, I jumped. He wants a Colt AR now but doesn't have the money. I see an AK in my future.:D

An old family friend passed away early this year. I was helping my mother-in-law clean out his apartment, we found an old S&W .38, nickel plated, 5 shot. Don't know the model but she let me take it home. Cleaned it up and it shoots just fine, but ammo is hard to find.

Oh, yeah, and I got one of those Garands that Big 5 was selling for $100 late last year. :neener:

My wingmaster

i got a wingmaster TB (trap) with a monte carlo wood stock with some real cool grain, and a 30 inch fixed modified barrell for 225.00. it has wear marks, but not a noticeable scratch, and the metal is near perfect with bluing wear only on the mag tube.:) :) S00000, i chopped the barrel down to 18.5 (dont worry, i was careful) and sprayed the stock with truck bed liner. I then screwed a shell holder on to the stock and have a sweet HD gun.:neener: :neener: :neener: :neener: Just kidding, but i really did get the gun for that price. i sold the barrel for 150.00, and paid 200 for a new 30 inch "TARGET 12" barrel with an improved mod. extended choke, as well as a factory extra full, and super full choke.

A Marlin 1894 iin .44mag for $210. It came with an old Bushnell Sportview scope too. Hardly used. This was 2 years ago.

I bought three Contenders with a combination of cash and trade. Sold two for $50 more than I had in the three, so I had a free Contender and $50 left.

Back a couple years I got a Rem. BDL .243win in a raffle. I bought 3 $5 tickets. Best deal i ever got. Anyone wanna buy it for $500 FTF, has less than a box of ammo through it. It comes with mount and rings(NIB).:D

Glock 21 two weeks old. Box and all the goodies .....$300.00
I was working in a gun store and sold it to the guy. He comes in and needs the money bad. I told him the owner didnt want it BUT I would give him 300 cash for it ....

Genuine North Vietnamese manufactured SKS, bringback war trophy- $120 at a local gun shop a couple years ago. They didn't know what they had.

Once answered an ad for a "box of firearms parts for some kind of rifle".
Inspected said parts and discovered it was a disassembled FAL pattern rifle on an Onyx arms reciever. Asked the person how much and was told "it was part of my late uncles collection and I have no idea what to ask". I replied to name a figure and I would decide if I liked it or not. They asked for $200.
I did my best to keep a straight face while counting out the 20's. Broke into a smile so big my ears were in danger as soon as I got in the jeep. Took it home, sanded it down a bit reblued some spots and put it all together. Really nice looking gun. Replaced the existing dustcover with a Tapco job with rails and mounted an authentic S.U.I.T. scope on it, got a tactical sling for it and man was I a happy camper.

My Holy Grail(s) of rifles:

A Winchester '94 in .356 Win., with a Lyman peep sight, 216 (IIRC) rounds of factory ammo & the cases of the 4 (FOUR) rounds that had been fired through it, original box & papers, for $550.

A Marlin 336-ER in.........356 Win., for $250.

Saw both of these recently on Guns America for $1200 and $1000, respectively.

My other was a sporterized Type-38, 6.5 X 50mm Arisaka, in a Fajen stock with a 4X scope for $100.

Talked to a lady who inherited 6 shotguns, 6 rifles and 8 handguns from her brother. She wanted to sell them, I "booked" them at $6000 and offered her $4000. She said no, I said I might go a little higher, she said no you don't understand I hate guns - they are evil, get them out of here immediately. I gave her a hundred dollar bill and left with the guns. Had a lawyer write her a certified letter outlining what happened, in case someone would claim that I did something wrong. Never heard from her again. Best deal of my life, True story.

I didn't stumble on to this weapon. I gifted it to my daughter. She's a prison guard near Abilene, TX.
I have a brand new FFL by the way and live in Killeen, TX. Just thought I'd throw that in for myself.
