Is it ok to decap and reseat live primers, for instance when you notice a bad case after you've already primed it and you really don't want to waste the primer or dispose of a primed case?

I have deprimed live primers without any problems. I have also re-used the same primers with mixed results, some worked, some didn't. The last time I re-used primers, both failed. I either deprimed too quickly, damaging the primer, or I exposed the primer to a contaminant, for whatever reason, the primer failed. I have since decided that when I deprime a live primer not to re-use them, the cost to replace the primer is low and not worth the possibility of a failed primer to me. Many other reloaders deprime and re-use primers without any problems. I think slow and careful is the key with minimum handling for best results.

Ive done it hundreds of times, ive handled them with my hands, alox, case lube, carb cleaner and all... Across atleast 5 brands of primers, I have yet to get one that wont go bang. Just back the primer out slowly and all is well. Just dont reuse primers that have been mangled. As long as there is no damage to the primer cup, I use em... heck, ive even had to put some loose anvils back in place.

THIS

I did the=is recently when a primer flipped over while priming some .45acp cases. I pushed the (upsidedown) primer out with the decapping die and reseated it in a more conventional configuration (right-side up).

Nada. Nothing. No Joy. No bang.

YMMV. This is just my one experiene.

Probably the reason for no 'Bang' when reuseing primers..Bill.;)

I've also done it hundreds of times, also with the primer set up side down, never had a problem. I usually set the case off to the side until I'm done reloading and then take care of the messed up case.

Done it too. They worked.
I guess one of the reasons i reuse them rather than just toss them is that I just dont want 99 finished rounds in the ammo box! Like it even really matters but there you go......
I have also found them to be pretty resistant to handling, still working after retrieving them from the dust underneath the drawers in my reloading bench.
