I have nine days left on my gun permit before it expires and I have to ask for an extension.Heres my plea,I don't really need another gun but want one.I am fortunate enough in these lean times to be able to afford to purchase one.The waiting period in my town is close to five months so you can understand why I want to use the permit now.I was thinking of a J frame 38,meybe a Ruger SP101 22LR.Yes I know they are as rare as hens teeth or possibly a 1911.I really hate to ask for an extension, what do you recommend I do?.
Ruger MKIII
S&W 686+P
S&W 3913
Browning BDA .380
I get to the range about once a month but I love to reload, and enjoy shooting two to three hundred mixed rounds when I do go.

Any of the ones you have listed sound good to me, I'd take any or all.

What platforms do you have now?

Of those on the list I would personally go for the Ruger MKIII, probably the least expensive, cheapest to shoot and a good .22 is always a good way to go, YMMV.

Can't go wrong with any of those listed. If you don't already have a .22 handgun, I'd go that way. Picked up a mkIII this past winter and it's tons of fun.

AMBASSADOR If you can afford to buy one go for it. The Ruger Mark III costs allot less buy and shoot. Since the SP101 in 22 has been discontinued that will be hard one to find without spending allot of money. I'm sure you'll find something that makes you happy. Good luck finding what you want.

Then I suggest the 686. .357 is cheap and easy to reload for, you can't beat the L Frame for accuracy and it's just a hoot to shoot.

yes go for it in my opinion you cant ever have enough and definately not too many guns and if i were you id renew my permit just to have it just because i feel strongly that its better to have and not need than to need and not have but if you want my opinion of the possibiliies that you have listed id most deffinately have to go with one of the most common best recognizable most trust worthy j frame its just a good ol gun

Misunderstood

The four guns mentioned,I already posess.I am thinking of buying a revolver in 22lr or 38spl or possibly a 45acp Colt or S&W maybe, suggestions please.

Hmmm, based on what you have and what you're looking at...
1. 1911
2. J frame
3. sp 101 .22

Case closed!:D

Ambassador;

T'were me, I'd be giving my tax dollars to a state government that appreciated them more. But, I also realize that's not practical in many cases.

H'mmmm. I can think of several options. A. See if you can negotiate with a Kimber dealer for the .45ACP you like and the .22 conversion kit at the same time. Conversion kits aren't scheduled FFL items at this time. The state need not know about the extra .22 rimfire slide you see. Maybe, but only maybe, you could get a break on the price for the package too. B. A Smith 686 is a joy, as was stated above. C. A Smith 617 10 round may make you throw rocks atcher MkIII too, so be careful about going down that road. D. Last but certainly not least, get a CZ452 .22 rifle, now! They've ceased production of the 452's with the advent of the 455. Supplies are limited to what's in the pipeline. You can not get a better .22 rifle for the buck.

It's nice to live in Texas too. I would pick the Ruger MKIII, or the J frame. I carry my S&W 642 everywhere. They are all good choices.

Get your gun.

Then I would suggest an equal amount in campaign contributions--in an effort to stop having to ask permission from your Lords.

Buy a gun. SP101 .22 if you can find one in time. 1911 if not, and that platform floats your boat. How about a Glock 23 (.40 S&W) and a 9mm conversion barrel? Nice to see a S&W 3913 in your stable. One of the best compact nines ever, IMHO.

Why would anyone want to contribute to a politiicans lodder, they make enough as it is.They are like the weather man on T.V.Right or wrong they still get paid.

Since you don't currently have a 1911, that's what I'd suggest. The Colts are very solid and they're the original. Try one out and see if it fits your hand. My guess is that you'll like it quite a bit. S&W 38spl revolvers are a hoot, too. Love mine. They're so easy to shoot well. But they're not a 1911. ;)

Send the money to whichever organization or pro-gun politician whom stands the best chance of getting rid of that nonsense. It sounds like you live in Japan or something.

If you don't have one yet, get the S&W 686+ (7-shot model). That's the foundation of a solid collection. Since I'm already covered there, I'm shopping for the Ruger MkIII for plinking.

The Browning .380 feels like a "pass" as the ammo is very hard to source. Once you have a 686, then you can consider the other options. If you're getting a new one, then use the S&W forums to find the guy selling the lock plugs and remove the lock and repair the frame and you're good.

I'd save up the money so that someday you can move to America. :neener:

But on that list, I'd have to go for the 1911 too.

1911...done!

I feel so lucky that my town only takes 1 month (sometimes even 3 weeks). My friend had to wait 6 months for each pistol permit. When he tried to get his CCW (for work), he was delayed for 7 months and had to consistently pester the chief of police and the mayor to push through his paperwork. That's 7 months that he couldn't work his new job.

Gotta love NJ!
