Hello,
I am fairly new to setting up feeders, and recently bought a nice feeder. My question, is what kind of motor would attach to my funnel. Also, what kind of motor would you recommend. I am looking for a timer that is programmable, not dusk and dawn. Then, a motor that is spring loaded that disallows raccoons to swing the spinner freely. I know, that I could set up a cage, but looking for other solutions.

Maybe it's just me, but every programmable unit I've tried has been nothing but problems for me. I normally have about 1/2 dozen feeders running year around and I'm feeding about 1/2 ton of corn a month. I finally just gave up on the big money programmable and went with the $30 cheapie dusk and dawn units which give me no problems. I was just welding on another feeder today, and it will get the same unit under it.
Maybe I am just old school, but I've found the simpler the better for me.
Sorry, I guess this is really not what you wanted to know.....just chiming in.,

It's not just you. i tried to make those programmable units work for years. Even the expensive ones caused me trouble. Resetting them when the time changed was a pain too. Finally went 100 percent with daylight and dusk feeders.

I get them on sale for $30-35. This is the one i use:

I use the cheapie Moultrie units also. I have some that have been going steady for about 5 years now and all I've done is just replace a battery about twice a year. I have had a few of the spinner plates chewed up by squirrels, but for under 10 bucks you can put a metal plate on them if need be. I probably should put cages around all mine, but just never got around to it.
After deer season last year I bought several extra units just because they were on sale and they are still on a shelf as I haven't needed to replace any. If you ever have to replace one, it's just a matter of 3 screws and you have a new one in place in 5 minutes.
I actually have one still working after a squirrel chewed the nubs off the spinner plate that cause the corn to spread out around the feeder. I put a blob of JB weld on it and put an electrical alligator clip in the weld while still wet. It's been running that way for about a year now.
