I just bought my son a H&R .243 youth model single shot. Does any one have a good load for 85-100 gr. bullet. Ballistic or SP?

Also a .357 load for deer. SWC or HP or what for good impact.

Thanks

I use 95 gr. Hornady SST's in my 243 w/ H-4350 and it delivers clean kills on deer without fail. As for the 357, I only handload 125's... however, unless you're going to be taking a lot of headshots, IMHO the 357 is a marginal for deer.

I don't have a load but maybe someone can chime in with a Buffalo Bore clone load??

not too sure on the .243 as i havent worked anything up in a while.

16.0 gr of H110 under a 158 gr. xtp is a friggin deer slaying machine. it thumps pretty good but drops them all kinds of ways. xtp penetrates very well on deer.

.243wcf: 95-100gr bullets: 42.5gr RL22 (start at 39.0 and work up, this is max but was most accurate in MY rifle; ditto for Nosler in manual #4), Winchester cases, Fed#210 primer.
Velocity will equal or exceed 3,000fps.

.357mag: 158-160gr bullets (for deer I recommend 158gr Rem. JSP or Hornady XTP-JSP; 17.8-18.0gr of Hod. Lil'Gun. (no need to work up, only produces ~30,000psi) But, no need to exceed either as you'll likely see a decrease in velocity due to characteristic of powder. (Do read Hodgdon's recommendations on this powder, ect.) Match brass headstamps, and use Winchester or CCI magnum primers. (Federals are superior match primers, but are a tad thin for highperformace reloads.... IMO.) Velocity is 1,500fps in 4" or longer barrels. 2,100fps from a 20" bbl.
