This isn't really hunting but I would think any hunter would appreciate this. I live on the edge of a small town. Town is about 2500 people or so. I own 5 acreas and two neighbors that surround me have 5-10 acreas and other neighbor has 40 acreas but I am still in city limits so no hunting rules apply. I have lived there about 5 years now and wife and I have done lots to the landscape to make it like we want. Since I have moved in we have deer (10-30) in the yard most the time, turkey, squirl, rabbits, coons, and most recently Cyotes..(don't like them). It is a regular wild kingdom/animal planet around our house. My little girl (10) gets a kick outta watchin dad teach her how to talk to animals and the such. She really gets a kick outta watchin mom chase them out of the garden...(they gotta eat to).
Anyways on to the point, I have seen lots of small fawns over my life but got home night before last and saw a doe laying in the pine trees. Didn't think much about it. Told her she better get moving cus I was getting ready to walk the dogs. (which is real funny cus they just end up playing with the deer more then anything). Go to let the dogs out and she ain't moving so I walk over to get her up and moving and noticed she is nervious and not moving. As I get real close I notice she is litterally droppin right in front of me. I backed off and let her be, went in got the wife and the kids and as I got back out in the yard doe is getting up. Within a couple of minutes little fawn is stublin out of the weeds. Weak needed and all. Took it about 5 minutes to get some bearing while mom was cleaning her off and within 10 minutes it was hoppin' around the yard like a pro. This is the first time I have ever seen something like this in the wild and it sure was a cool experiance. I am sure the rest of the hunters out there are just like me and love to fill the freezer but it sure was nice to share this experiance with the deer.
