Yesterday morning I got my first deer of the season. I've been hunting all year and this was my first time I've been able to get a shot. It was a smaller doe that was in a full run down the hill right towards me. I saw her right at the top of the ridge about 100 yards away. I quickly grabbed my MSR AR-15 in 30 Rem AR and quickly snapped it up onto my shoulder and flipped the safety lever. I was quickly able to find her in my scope and followed her down the hill to a distance of about 40 yards.
I made a doe bleat noise with my mouth and she went from a full on run to a dead stop instantly. She was facing me directly I steadily placed my crosshairs right between the front legs at the base of the neck. Slowly I exhale all my breath and squeeze my SSA trigger the 2nd stage breaks like a thin piece of glass. At the shot I saw hair fly and she fell onto her back legs. She went straight down and slid down the hill a few feet as she struggled to get her feet. Quickly it was all over and there she laid.
Moments like this make up for all the times I leave the woods empty handed. The happiness, excitement, and joy I feel are unmatched from anything else. The times I am in a stand and leave empty handed I still enjoy the time to view Gods creation and marvel at the view. Therapeutic for me. Its a win win I've only been a deer hunter for 5 seasons now and its safe to say that I'm hooked for life.
