I'm in North Texas. Our entire family has been shut out for the first time in over 30 years of owning the land. We had a record acorn crop. Have seen tracks on the trails and roads but none at the feeders and no pics on trail cams after first of October when acorns started dropping.
I have spent over 40 hours in stand and several hours of walking through our woods and sitting near large oak trees with acorns and tracks around. Have only seen one doe all season. I know they are around. They have no reason to move far from their beds with acorns everywhere. We have had a few fronts and storms move through, which will usually get them moving but not this year. Same story with all my friends and others from around north and central Texas.
Our 200 acres has solid oak trees except for 25 acres of coastal fields and some semi-open areas where the oaks are just scattered.
Our place is loaded with deer and our entire family has always been able to take deer almost at will as long as we followed the usual guidelines of early morning or late afternoon, cooler temp, light or no wind, and moon phase. I rarely had to sit more than 3 hours to take a doe. Not this year!
