I came across a scarf in my closet today and had an idea for a home defense poster. The problem is, I have little to no photo editing skills.

Perhaps if I post both pictures, someone could help me out. I will post the first picture here and the next as a reply since I couldn't figure out if I could attach two pictures to a post.

I was thinking the first picture could say "Defenseless housewife?" and the second could say "Think again!". If you have a better idea though, go for it! Thank you to anyone who can help me.

Methinks you need to take a trip to see Mr. Volk. You've got the gun, you've got the look, now let Oleg bring his talent into the equation and we'd have a real winner! :D

(Sorry, I can't edit worth a darn either)

Someone say "Defenseless Housewife?"

GirlwithaGun: Good start. Suggest if you ever go west towards Nashville, you stop by and say hello to Oleg. He'll take some shots that blow your socks off. :)

I think you've got the makings of an excellent idea.

If I were executing it, I believe I'd start with a pair of shots showing the same person at the same distance in near-identical poses, one with defender concealed, one with defender half-revealed as you've done in the second shot.

If that didn't go the whole distance, I'd rethink it more or less the way you've done it: fairly close head and shoulders portrait followed by longer distance portrait with defender half-revealed.

Whatever you're wearing probably shouldn't have text on it: it tends to distract the eye. I'm not sure the scarf adds value, but I'll admit I'm long on faces and short on decoration.

Awesome, Girlwithagun! I think if you get together with Oleg, you've got a fantastic poster! You (assuming that is you in the picture) definitely have the attitude, and that is a huge part of the message.

You go, girl! :D

Ok ... played with this .. just 10 minutes of messing to see what could be done. This is I stress thrown together .. 2nd pic too is unsharp ... and color balance needs tweaked even more. Needs way more work.

However .. as a basic idea I like it . Oleg would soon knock this into shape. See what you think?

Doesn't work for me

Girlwithagun,

Defenseless? Not with that gleam in your eye! You need to try a more "deer in the headlights" look.

Honestly, you like you're just WAITING to plug someone!

Not that she would want to....but GWAG could do it if she wants to.....she's a pretty good shot when we have our MD THR get togethers. She's also the only female who's responded to my suggestion of an HK USPc instead of the full size by saying that the compact wasn't big enough!

So how is that Model1911 treating you GWAG?

Hehe. Thank you for your suggestions. I will try again sometime using your advice. These shots were done by myself and a tripod while my 2 sons were running wild around the house :p so it was kind of a quick job. Besides the scarf, I was just wearing what I normally would be but maybe next time I will wear something without words on it. The way my 1911 is in that shot is how I carry it all day. I don't conceal it at home and since I live in Maryland, I can't go off my property with it. BOO!

I really want to get into taking and editing photos so if ya'll know a way I can get started without spending a fortune, please let me know. These photos were taken on my digital camera but I also have a nicer 35mm camera.

Norton: I am still in love with my 1911. I am afraid I might never recover...But that's ok, I don't think I want to. :neener:

i like the idea. how about taking it a step further and use some props?

the first picture is of you doing some household chore, any chore will work.

the second picture shows you've dropped whatever was in your hands (dishtowel, vacuum, laundry, whatever) and you have drawn your weapon in low-ready condition, not pointed right at the camera, but at the ground, using a two hand hold on the grips. and have a determined "Not-A-Victim" expression on your face.

the idea, as i interpret it, is to reveal that even Sally Homemaker is a warrior underneath it all.

How about the "housewife" wearing a light sweater, carrying a bag of groceries. Perhaps beside a mini-van with the side door open.

In the first picture she is smiling sweetly while holding the bag of groceries in front of herself with both hands.

In the second scene she is not smiling and has the bag in one hand and her other hand has brushed her sweater back and is now on the butt of her holstered handgun.

Just a thought.

Hmmm... If you're gonna do props, why not make the first shot with her holding a broom or mop, and the second shot with the broom leaning hap-hazardly against something, the utility closet door open, and there on the broom/mop holder clips, next to an empty slot, an AR or pump shotgun?

Maybe have one turning frm the minivan with a bag of groceries, and the next the same shot with the groceries on the ground (dropped & spilled about) and the pistol being presented. Not all the way up - just clearing the holster and starting to rise.

For cheap/free editting software, well... Photoshop is right out. You might want to try Gimp.

I have yet to try it, but I hear good things about it. (besides it's price)

Oleg - if you get her out for a shoot, let me know.

Don't know when she'd come out for a shoot...Gusdaddysgirl has been threatening to show up for years now and hasn't yet...so Girlwithagun might get around to it by 2013 or so ;)

Oleg,
'Tis true. My kids don't leave me much time for roadtrips not to mention they are insane in the car. I know you don't come to Maryland and I don't blame you, but maybe if you come to northern VA or PA sometime the family and I will come. Or maybe someday we'll move to the USA! :D

GWAG, I like your idea and you certainly have "the attitude" with your photographic nature. But like someone else said, in the first pic you don't look too afraid to me, more like the confident woman look. Oh, love your sig line !
