Delaware--One step closer to shall issue

Matt, I wish you luck.

We're fighting the same shall issue fight in Iowa. It's looking promising for us to improve our current issue system, with an aggressive appeal process for denied permits as one of the improvements. Not shall issue, but one step closer.

Best of luck from north of the border, just across the DM bridge. I see your Wilmington Rep., Mr. Williams doesn't support you, no surprise there. I wish the pols could get through their heads that if laws like these pass, at least the good guys would have the means to fight back. We all know the bad guys are already CCW regardless of the laws.

i've got my fingers crossed on this one. i'm pursuing ccw through our may-issue law, but i sure would like to avoid some of the red tape. that williams is a waste.....no matter how many times i read such statements, i cannot help but be bothered that for so many people, legally carried guns are equated with illegally carried guns, or the old "more guns on the street."......oh so tiresome.

Good luck to our friends to the East. We're pulling for you.

If DE goes shall-issue, MD will be surrounded and will strengthen our case for CCW to pass here.

Don't be so sure about a DE CCW getting support for a MD CCW. Pennsylvania has been blamed recently by NJ for causing gun crime in their state. This is a political issue, not a common sense one. Even though people who legally carry concealed weapons aren't the ones committing the crimes, politicians find a way to scare the sheeple.

Martin,

First off, welcome aboard.

I agree that your assessment is a common scare tactic of the antis. However, every state that passes shall-issue legislation is another victory for all of us. When it comes down to only 11 states not beiing shall-issue, who will they point their finger at? In other words, why isn't crime skyrocketing in PA if that's the source of the guns invading NJ?

My analogy for what we're seeing is that of untying a knotted shoelace. The first part is sometimes very hard to undo. But for each time you pull one part of the knot apart, the easier the rest is to undo. After a while, the knt simply falls apart.

This is still good news for MD.

I wish the pols could get through their heads that if laws like these pass, at least the good guys would have the means to fight back.

The trouble is very simple: they do understand it. Bear in mind: well over 90% of convicted felons who vote, vote for representatives of the Democratic (sic) party.

geez martin, i thought you'd never post something. now you'll be hooked.

i'm martin's Paduan.

delaware is strange in that you can open carry without a license, but the ccw process is as i am learning, exhaustive. this shall issue will be difficult to get through i think. delaware is so small, and wilmington is the only major city. the city is crawling with drug traffic and violent crime, and the politicians are, as you can see, cognitively challenged. much of the entire state's legislature stems from what is going on in wilmington. tough road ahead. hence my frustration stated on a previous thread where i said i was considering open carrying....sorry martin:)

I truly hope this bill gets passed and signed. The most
important thing of course is the fact that steps to get a
CCW for law abiding citizens to protect themselves
and their loved ones will become easier.

One of the other excellent things about this at least for me,
is the fact that it will make getting a CCW has been
made easier right in Mrs. Brady's very own backyard.

I realize this is pretty petty of me to post this, but for
someone who has done her best to demonize firearms
as well as firearm enthusiasts, this for me has the old
"what goes around comes around" mantra fitting in just
about right >

Dewey Beach resident and founder of the Brady Campaign, Sarah Brady opposes the new legislation.

“Both Jim and I are appalled. Hopefully, we will be able to convince legislators of the inherent dangers of this bill,” Sarah Brady said.

“What do those limitations do for our safety in daycare centers, grocery stores and on our highways?” asks Brady.

“We are proud to call Delaware home because of our governor making it a cleaner air state, a safer state, but this bill could make that all for naught,” she said.

If she wants cleaner air, Sarah could set an example by keeping her mouth shut.

Good luck, Delaware!

This is great news. I live in PA now, but I come from Delaware. I want my dad to get his CCW, and although he's perfectly qualified to get a permit through the current process, a shall-issue law will make life easier.

Hope this goes through.

My point exactly, politicians aren't interested in logical arguments, they are interested in politics. I think we are fortunate to be entering into a period where being anti-gun just doesn't make as much sense politically as it once did (except in a few areas). I would like to think the reason is that gun control doesn't do anything to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, and that people have finally figured that out, despite what politicians have told them.

I have also heard about a bill being introduced by a Florida lawmaker to make other states have to recognize each others CCW laws. I don't know the details, but BRAVO, it is rediculous that if I cross a bridge I go from law abiding citizen to criminal.

Peace Out!

"It's inherently dangerous to have a loaded, hidden handgun in your pocket, and people should have a valid reason for having one, and a judge should be able to say no if he or she thinks someone's a slice short of a full loaf," Brady said.

Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black?

I think it's inherently dangerous to put sarah brady in front of a podium....they should call THAT reckless public policy.

Go Delaware! Every single state that gets this makes it that much harder for the other states to hold out. All the "blood in the streets" and "shootings over parking spaces" stuff becomes less credible every time a state goes shall-issue. "38 other states have similar laws and they don't have shootings over parking spaces, so why will that happen here?"

Actually as a current CCW holder in the state of Delaware, I have to tell you that this will make virtually no difference at all. The judge rather than looking at your reason and deciding to deny you can look at your references (you still need 5 of them from people unrelated to you living in the same county that have know you for at least 2 years) or anything else and decide to deny you. You still need to take the training and go through all the other stuff. You could still be interviewed by an investigator from the AG's office to determine if there is a reason for denial.

What it actually does, is shelter us from the dram shop regulations (no carry in a place serving alcohol which is what the legislature wanted), instead we have a .08 intoxication standard which gives them the right to lift your license if you are caught carring and have a .08 or greater alcohol concentration, even if you were watching TV in your living room. So if you have a beer or two and use your pistol in your own home afterwards GOOOOD BYYYYYYYE CCW forever.:cuss:

They have also outlawed carry into any building that is Obviously used as a school, so no carry into church or community centers or schools, which was legal before though not encouraged, it was only illegal if you were committing another crime. Of course if you work there you are exempt (which could be good if its left in the bill a BIG IIIFFFF). You also cant carry into any government building unless you work there, ever.:scrutiny:

As a current CCW Holder, this makes my legal carry more restricted, and adds a couple of new offenses for us CCW holders.

So color me unimpressed.

of course, if you ask those that have gone through the application process and been rejected, there must be an awful lot of law abiding citizens that meet the requirements that are "a slice short of a full loaf." clearly, delaware judges have used this discretion irresponsibly.

when, not if, but when this passes, it will be the ultimate slap in the face to this ridiculous brady campaign....they can't even secure a victory in their own state. delaware, currently a C-, will most assuredly fall to a D-, and maybe even an F for this.....HALLELUJAH
