This should scare the bejesus out of everyone

Gun-toters can be lulled into false sense of security

If a law-abiding citizen shoots at a mugger who is about to attack him, then the citizen is now, in the eyes of the law, the criminal.

He has surpassed the bounds of self-defense. His escalation of the situation made him the aggressor, and it is he who injures the attacker. The idea that he is now guilty of a crime is ridiculous, but it is the case.

Equally disturbing is the death of a citizen by a criminal when he realizes his victim is carrying a concealed weapon. This situation had the possibility of being avoided had the victim willingly given the assailant anything he requested.

The above situations show the horrific consequences of the wrong actions, and at least in my mind, lead to the conclusion that carrying a gun leads to nothing other than a false sense of safety.
