Toying with the idea of maybe moving sometime this year or next. Just want a change of scenery. Did a little bit of research, but need the locals opinions. How is Delaware overall? Gun friendly? What in terms of guns/magazines/conceal carry isn't allowed there? Any gun shows? Is Dover a decent city? What do you think about Shooters Choice? What is there to do/see? What is the minimum wage? Any tips or hints? Thanks
 
Move a few miles northwest, to Pennsylvania. Far, far friendlier to gun owners. Licensed (shall-issue) concealed carry, unlicensed open carry (except in cars and Philadelphia, both where you need a license to carry open or concealed). No prohibited areas for carry with the exception of court facilities and possibly schools (legal grey area). No magazine restrictions or assault weapon bans, and all NFA items are legal. No waiting period on long guns or handguns, or restrictions on number of guns a month or whatever.
 
Wow. No one said a word about Delaware, which means they probably know nothing about Delaware. Delaware is great. Its a wealthy state. No sales tax. Great beaches. Four beautiful seasons. Most of the state is still rural with a conservative rural mentality. The north of the state is urban and densely populated. In the north is Wilmington, the largest city. It's a great city but has drug and violent crime problems. This means it's no different than any other urban center in the country. Lots of history and lots of beautiful land. The delmarva peninsula is a wonderful place. Whoever started going on about crappy guns laws was speaking out of their butt. The only restriction in Delaware is on automatic weapons. They are prohibited. There is ccw. It is may issue but as I have found, not a very difficult process. No restrictions on purchases.

Delaware is so so. I would classify it as gun neutral, no NFA but no waiting periods, no magazine or assault weapon restrictions, no limits on number of weapons that can be purchased at a given time.
The main city, Wilmington is a dump, and because of the inner city "renovations" the bums in the city are being pushed into suburbia. In Wilmington city limits one cannot even purchase an air pistol! Dover is one of the cheapest cities in the US to live in. Home prices are pretty low, there is no sales tax, vehicle registration is $40 per year without the bogus inspections of Pennsylvania.
Delaware is one of the more corrupt states so zoning laws and building restrictions don't mean a lot if you know the right people; because of this every decent place to shoot has become a housing developement.
Concealed permits cost about $400 when you get done jumping through hoops and playing the state's silly games. Open carry is legal but expect to have the police called on you every time you step out of the house.
I can't remember minimum wage laws but I doubt they will apply to you because you managed to type a post without glaring errors Im sure you can find a job paying more than min wage. Delaware has favorable incorporation laws and has become the home state for many major companies and subsequently corporate law firms.
I have lived here for almost 30 years and know of very few guns shows. There are better shows in PA.
Lots of history here. Depending where you decide to buy houses from the 1700's aren't uncommon. There are no major sports teams or entertainment venues, but 30 minutes to Philadelphia and you can have al that. There is not a whole lot to do outdoors unless you like beaches or you have a boat in which case there is first class waterfowl hunting and fishing.
Shooters Choice has exceptional prices but limited selection, their indoor range is on the rough side. Obviously better ranges are more north.

I was stationed at Dover Air Force Base, Dover, DE. for a couple of years. Nice beaches close by. But the mosquitos are so big... one night no moon a really big one landed on the flight line and the ground crew refueled the sucker.
 
Anpother vote for PA. I'm from Chester County and still own property there. Getting a CCW, and finding places to shoot and hunt is very easy.
 
carlrodd - I lived in Delaware for quite a few years. I went to schools there, had businesses there, dealt with the local politicians and developers, and even had an FFL there, so yes, I do know quite a bit about Delaware and its gun laws. Its ok, but it doesn't come close to Pennsylvania as far as gun laws go. PA is a shall issue state, where its far easier to get a CCW than Delaware. PA allows all types of NFA weapons (the reason I left Delaware) and CLEO signoffs outside of the major cities are fairly easy. Ranges, places to shoot, and gun stores are more available than in Delaware. In short, PA is simply less restrictive than Delaware WRT gun laws, and unless you live in 'slower lower' you'd be better off going a few miles outside of Wilmington to Pennsylvania.
 
It's better than Gaza. Lived there for several years in every county. Surprisingly gun friendly considering the politics. But aside from that, there's not much there for an outdoor enthusiast. If I could put it in one sentence (and I wish they would make this the state motto), "All of the disadvantages of a big city with none of the advantages". The reason I say this is all the pollution, traffic, violence, drugs, overcrowding, and everything is very expensive. However, there is no art, no entertainment, no recreation to make up for it. Also, if you like to eat out, forget it. Nowhere in that state is there a place to get a great meal at a great price. You can get a decent meal dining out for two for about $125 at the minimum. And no, I don't count Bob Evans and Olive Garden as a decent meal out. Any other state you can find something to eat for less than $100 that hasn't been dethawed and thrown on your plate.
 
Wow I'm glad I asked. I was only curious about the minimum wage was all. I think its almost $9 here, but thats because cost of living is a little high in WA. But honestly the chance of me moving is realistically only like 25%. Thats why I said toying with the idea of maybe moving.
 
wow. for all the first state haters, feel free to move out if you still live here...i'm all for a smaller population. there is plenty to do in lower delaware for an outdoor enthusiast. there is a vibrant hunting culture, a huge fishing culture, and as was mentioned previously, some of the most beautiful land around, especially for such a small state. the delmarva peninsula is a very unique place, both culturally and geographically.
