I've loaded pistol for several years with no problems, but I'm new to rifle loading. Trying to load .223 but I keep getting dented cases. :( I'm using Lyman Qwik spray case lube and following the instructions. What can I do to keep this from happening.

Either you using too much or you're getting too much on the necks.

I prefer to lube rifle cases with a pad or my fingers just for that reason.

Yep.

Oil dents mean you are using too much lube.

Spray lightly, allow the solvent to dry, and then spread it around with your fingers until there is just a very thin film of lube left on the case.

Wipe the excess lube from your hands on your pants leg.

Thanks for all the help! Light coat and a twist between the fingers really seemed to take care of the problem. And wiping the excess on the pants sealed the deal. :)

I was getting dents and then changed to Hornaday One Shot. I have solved the dented case problem.

I hold the case in my right hand (I feed a Dillon 550B), grasp the neck with my left thumb & forefinger and twirl to get the excess off the neck. I then wipe those fingers on the left trouser leg, and the right hand on the right trouser leg. Left leg stains are primarily lateral and just above the knee; right side stains cluster mid-thigh and dorsal to slightly lateral, barring recent reviling and disparaging remarks by my wife :cuss: , in which case I use old towels on my legs...
