GUN POLICY
False perceptions
What is the big deal about having a concealed-carry permit for those who pass background tests, who can prove competency with a gun and, most of all, who are law-abiding citizens?
I'll tell you what's wrong. It's the mayor of Denver and others who think that all the gang-bangers will be allowed to obtain permits and go out and commit murder and create mayhem. Excuse me? For your information, the gang-bangers do not need a concealed-carry permit to carry a gun. DUH.
A concealed-carry permit is for the average citizen who wants to abide by the law and legally carry a gun for personal and family protection. The carry permit law will balance the playing field, putting all of the individual local laws under one set of state laws.
Why is it unlawful for a tax-paying, law-abiding and legal U.S. citizen and longtime resident of Denver to carry a concealed weapon? Because of those people who believe that law-abiding citizens are more apt to commit a crime with a gun if they have the right to carry. Nonsense! If people want to carry guns, permit or not, they're going to carry them. Just ask the local thug, felon or gang-banger.
It's a false perception that crime rates increase when concealed-carry permits are issued. In fact, it's the opposite. Crime rates usually decrease. Why? Because potential perpetrators don't know who's carrying a pistol when they go walking into a restaurant or store. If more law-abiding, qualified and properly trained citizens were to legally carry in Colorado, I'm willing to bet that the crime rates would decrease!
