Depreciating value of pre-ban items

Anyone feel like they wasted/lost a lot of money by buying pre-ban rifles during the ban for more than twice their worth, or for paying $150 for a pre-ban Glock magazine?
 
I don't think it was a waste ... we've only been sure the ban would die for the last few months.

If the ban would have been extended (or made worse) then you'd be the one with all the goodies.
 
I never purchased any premium priced pre ban rifles.

The pre ban magazines I got for my BHP were under 20 bucks. If you don't sell the stuff you bought then you can't take a loss.

I can tell you I am going to appoint my ak and my ar with all of the pre ban stuff as soon as I can afford it.

I have no doubt that there will be another attempt to restrict our 2nd amendment rights.

When they do, I want all the pre ban stuff in my possession. The stuff won't be worth more, it will be priceless.
 
The only "pre-ban" stuff I bought during the ban was a few Glock 19 mags. I think I paid around $50 for them, and don't really regret it.

I am sure glad they are worthless now.

This has been the only time in my life that something losing value actually made me happy.
 
Pay double or more for a bayonet lug, flash hider or a folding stock?
$50.00 or more for a couple of extra rounds?
Mama raised a smarter son than that.

At the time it was worth it to you. You were willing to pay the price to purchase something you wanted. So no it wasnt a waste of money.
 
The only handgun I own that had more than 10 round standard capacity was my Glock 21. Eleven rounds of .45acp is nothing to sneeze at, and at $80-100 per 13 round mag before the ban ended was too much. So I didn't buy any pre-bans then. 5x the price for three extra rounds was not worth it to me.

For Rifles, AR magazines were still fairly cheap, so I got several of those. I will buy more now though.

So no, I have no regrets.
 
The only "pre-ban" stuff I got was really inexpensive mags (Chinese Beretta mags and such) and a Glock 22 with two pre-ban mags, which after trading one mag off made the Glock a really great deal!
 
I bought a couple "pre-ban" AR15s. I don't really consider it to be a waste. I had the money and since buying them, have made a lot more. You want to hear the best part ? I bought the pre-ban rifle and had a post ban upper on it for the whole time I owned it. What I wanted, was a carbine I could put a collaspable stock on it.
 
The pre ban stuff I do have I did ok on so I don't feel I got took . However I am of the opinion that we have not seen the last of this kind of legislation and I fear the next one will be worse than this one was . Therefore I am using this logic as an accuse to justify buying more guns . As these will be once again pre ban and command the higher price . :neener: :D
 
As has been stated: hindsight is 20/20.

I bought a pre-ban AR knowing full well that the ban was not permanent but at the same time not trusting or assuming that it would or that something even worse might come along.

I had no desire or intent to "invest" in a firearm and looked forward to the day when my $1400 rifle lost perhaps almost half it's "value".

However during the time the ban was in place I had the peace of mind of knowing I was covered as far as having a lower that I could dress up with whatever crap I wanted to put on it. Peace of mind is something that it is very hard to put a price on.
 
For 10 years I had the privilege of owning and using a number of "full capacity" magazines and several "pre-ban" rifles and a shotgun. The handguns shot the number of rounds they were designed for. I think the rifles (early Colt AR-15s) are better made than the post ban versions. The shotgun has a factory long mag tube and "tactical" sights, much frowned on by the antis.

Ten years of not pissing and moaning about what I didn't have was worth something to me. Many people don't think so. Good thing I was spending my money and not your's.

I kinda burned the candle at both ends, to use the wrong analogy.

I bought a bunch of pre ban mags at fairly low pre ban prices, and sold a bunch of them at very high pre ban prices. I kept about half.

They were worth it to me at the time, and it's only money, right? If the ban were extended, $70 for a Glock (non ban, standard capacity, pre ban, high capacity) would seem like a bargain.
 
Only bought one "pre-ban" gun during the ban and it was a well used but full colt SP1. I got it for less than the SP1s are bringing now so I don't have any regrets. Any mags I bought during the ban were bought at pre-ban prices anyway. Being patient and willing to wait for the right deal makes it easier not to be taken.
 
No regrets, not even buying a few G3 mags at $40 each. I bought all that I have because I like them, rather than to make money.

So, now I can buy (theoretically) more of what I like for less.
