ROCHESTER, Minn. -- An Olmsted County deputy has been cleared of any wrongdoing in the shooting death of a Stewartville man.
The Winona County Attorney's Office found that Deputy Jason Christensen used reasonable force in the shooting of 43-year-old Calvin Barrett in May.
Prosecutors say Barrett shot at Christensen, who then returned fire.
According to the county attorney's report:
Barrett had apparently fled when Christensen tried to serve an arrest warrant at his home. During a foot pursuit, the deputy used a stun gun and a baton to try to subdue Barrett.
At one point, Barrett pulled out a .32-caliber revolver and fired it several times at the deputy. Two bullets struck Christensen.
One hit him in his bullet-resistant vest and another in the buttocks. After Barrett shot at the deputy, Christensen returned fire, hitting Barrett twice.
One of the bullets damaged Barrett's left kidney, spleen and liver. Barrett died from blood loss as a result of that gunshot wound.

Sounds like the Deputy was more than reasonable in his use of force trying to arrest the bad guy with the warrant. Glad his patience didn't cost him his life, only a bullet wound.
