Dern you Taurus!

As not to add to the peeing contest, maybe our thread starter should go to the local shops, ranges, and gun clubs and try a few different models and see what feels right for him and fits his needs.

We can recommend till the cows come home and it won't do a bit of good without him trying these guns out himself. Recommendations can be made, but these are all subjective.

In order to help our requestor out it may be advisable to back up the good reasons for a pick with sound reasoning.

There are a lot of choices

As has been stated by others, Ruger, Taurus, Rossi, Kel-tec, and others can be had for those on a budget. In the real world one loses nothing by taking a gander at any of the makes and models.

Do own Ruger and Taurus handguns. All are still giving sterling service.

All the above mentioned brands all have forums dedicated to these. Why not ask and research at each and see what pops up at you?

i guess i'll cling to the fact that at least i'll die never having been a taurus owner.
These are the posts that continue to amuse me with their conspicuous irony. And yet, having never owned one, this person continues to damn all firearms manufactured by this maker ...

Sound advice. At last! Common sense and experience show up ...

shadowbob summed it up with more class than i could ever have. and glockman is hilarious i bursted into laughter after reading that :D

and old dog: i've never owned one but i've shot a few and played with a few more at gun stores. i'm sure, as many people have stated, that there exists taurus pistols that work. it doesn't change the fact that i am entitled to my views about them and that i feel the need to shower after handling them. i have done nothing but express those views in a country with free speech and a forum that promotes a free-flow of information, some of which can be opinion based. for the record you like 'em and i hate 'em. why can't it just be like that?

Aaryq, my PT111 has a loaded chamber indicator and it has been 100% reliable with everything I have fed it. WWB, Win Rangers, Fed Hyrashoks, Speer Golddot, and who knows how much UMC and reloaded stuff, and not a single failure yet. They are great guns for the money.

That said, have a look at CZ. They are probably the best value out there in pistols. They have great ergos for most of the people who have shot and handled mine. They are accurate, with just enough heft to control recoil for follow up shots. They may be a little heavy for a long day of CCW, but mine rides in the truck. Give them a look, and good luck with whatever you buy.

:) :)
That's kinda how I feel after I ride in my buddy's Ford F150.

And I agree about the CZ's. They appear to be awesome pistols and my Rami is solid. It is definitely more than the Taurus but it is sweet.

Since you don't have a loaded chamber indicator, I hate you.

Eh? My Taurus PT111/Millennium Pro 2nd series has a chamber indicator. It's tactile and red. Which series are you looking at? I'm fairly certain the 3rd (and preferable) series with the DA/SA trigger also has one, but I'm not sure about the 1st series.

Might want to look at the CZ-75 compact or the CZ-75 P01 if you want a light rail. Both nicely inexpensive (though a bit more than the Taurus PT1xx). I'd love a CZ-75 Compact myself...

i'm not trying to teach you new tricks OLD DOG, but it's a taurus. taurus! that's my point.

Aside from the horns on their logo, it's a pretty dull point, and not supported by any more evidence than you couldn't also bring against Glock, H&K, or Sig.

Oh, and biggiesmalls - did you live in SD previously? I know someone named Biggie Smalls...

I better get rid of my 3 Taurus pistols that have worked flawlessly for years since Biggie seems like a resident expert on all things guns.

Yes, post haste! Especially since he's apparently never owned one. (Not that Taurus guns don't occasionally have their problems, but that's no different than any other gun.)

Closed for namecalling.

There's a half dozen people on this thread need to re-read the forum rules, and take a deep breath before they post again.
