Some years ago this kit was tested with balls :

And now some shooting with bullets :

2handhold with slight rest at 25meters ; 20grs BP and Lee REAL 200grs bullet :

I am really astonished because bullets are stabilized despite the slow twist and short barrel .

This is stunning accuracy and Deringers deserve some respect indeed !!!!!

That's phenomenal accuracy, much better than it shot with round balls.
The rear sight must have contributed toward obtaining those results. :)

derringers definitely deserve more respect than they are given credit for. people mislabel derringers as belly guns but i can tell you it is not the gun, it is the shooter that is inaccurate. even the NAA pug can be accurately used despite the short barrel length. well done! great shooting there!

Most impressive. I have a CVA 45 cal Colonial Pistol. It's longer than a derringer but shorter than a Kentucky pistol.
I've always wanted a Philadelphia Deringer and a Kentucky pistol.

I just may have try out Lee REAL and Minie bullets in the Colonial.
I've even thought about trying them in my Pietta 58 Remington.

I like your brass ramrod. My Colonial pistol has a plain steel ramrod. I'm thinking about making one of brass rod with shouldered, threaded ends with a flared ball/bullet seater on one end and a tulip style palm protector on the other end. I'm thinking white delrin, aged to look like ivory, or cast acrylic or polyester, dyed to look like ivory.
Maybe I just need to make a pistol range rod like that to use with the Colonial and the Howdah.

I never would have thought of using the Lee REAL bullet in my gun. Yes, that is amazing shooting.

I think you just turned the world of shooting these little guns on it's collective head! Talk about not seeing the forest for the trees!

The Doc is out and very, very impressed now!

Hello,

Some years have passed between the first (with balls) and present (with REAL bullets) shooting.

I am not a better shooter today (unfortunately) but I have more experience in "optimization" of out of the box muzzeloaders ( for instance I remember that trigger was very creepy at that time and has been improved since) ; Probably I would have better results with balls today than some years ago.

Regards
