My gf asked me what guns Lara is carrying, and I saw in a scene, she pulls out a desert eagle.

How come DE's are suddenly so popular in movies? Don't get me wrong, I love them, but from a size/practicality perspective, they are not really something I'd want to haul around...

Hmmmm...

I haven't seen the new movie, but in the first Tomb Raider, wasn't she carrying H&K USP Tacticals?

I think Desert Eagles have always been popular in movies...the Russian at the beggining of Boondock Saints carried one, in the commercials for Charlies Angels 2, it looks like Demi Moore has a matched set(of Desert Eagles), and I seem to recall that one of Mike Myers charecters in Gold Member carried one.

And it always amazes me how all theses people never 'print' when they are carrying an Desert Eagle...

I guess all those references ARE fairly recent...

As for why? Well, it being Hollywood, and Hollywood having an agenda, they are big, scary looking guns, that can only easily be carried concealed in the movies, so what better to scare the sheeple with? :fire:

It's like a newer version of a big bad revolver... nice looking enough for my wife to really want one.

They were also in Bulletproof Monk, and of course The Matrix 1 and 2. etc...

Desert Eagles seem to be popular in the movies because for the most part they are pretty unique in size & shape. Miss Croft totes custom USP Matches by the way ;)

Yes, Miss Croft (and just about everybody else, except for a few SIGs) carries H&Ks in TR2. And 10-Ring is right that they are Matches.

Desert Eagles have been Arnold's gun of choice for years (I don't think he used them in the Terminator movies, but they show up in alot of his other movies Red Heat comes to mind and I think Eraser also).

Unfortunately, the USP Match guns are not imported anymore. Something about low sales (they were expensive). A local dealer has one that is used but looks new and has a pricetag of $1200. Lots of people look, but so far as I know, nobody buys.

Desert Eagles have been a movie favorite since they were introduced 20 years ago. It isn't just lately. Name a year and there is at least one DE movie.

They are number two to the ubiquitous Beretta 92, which appears in every action movie, usually in the hero's hands.

Uhh, didn't see the latest tomb raider, but she had USP matches in the first one. In the video game she had desert eagles at her disposal. Dunno about the new movie.

And the desert eagle has been in a LOT of movies. a LOT.

"Excel Saga"

Ya, seems like whenever some shoots Excel it's with a DE. This is probably the funniest cartoon series to ever come out of Japan...

This secne was great. Excel (the Main character) is having moral problems. She is sent to kill this guy, but then a little angel appears on her sholder, telling her that killing is wrong. Then, of course, a little devil appears on her other sholder telling her that killing is okay. So the "good" excel shoots the "evil" excel... I don't do a great job of explaining it, but trust me, it's funny...

The Desert Eagle seems like its only second in popularity to the Beretta 92 FS. Its big and scary looking. Its one of Hollywoods' biggest stars and I wouldn't be surprised if it got a Star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The first time I saw a Desert Eagle was in the early 80's. In the movie "Year of the Dragon" with Mickey Rourke he pulls it out of his cabinet and bears down on two thugs who just killed his wife. Emotional scene but all I could think was "What was that freaking huge gun!!!" And the Desert Eagle was mentioned and seen in episodes of Miami Vice. Since then it seems like it has appeared in almost every action movie or TV series.

DEagles recent?
I think they are even in some carvings on some celtic standing stones near the Henge.

Its actually a Baby Eagle. The rock shattered at a critical phase of the carving, and had to be resized.

Not that I am usually a big believer in the works of that famous cokehead, Freud, but in this case, the cigar is not just a cigar.

Desert Eagles have always been popular, true, but I think their days are numbered since they look like toy waterguns next to the revolvers made for .500 S&Ws - look for them to make some appearances.

raz-o, is "Plump Fiction" a knock-off porn for fat fetishers or what - Kinda like "Titty Slickers"?

Nah, what's recent is the dual speed unload. Wang away at the baddies with a pistol in each hand and then drop both mags at once. Bruce Willis started it in Last Man and now Lara was doing it. Ought to be a cool looking reload.

I doubt their days are numbered. Of course, the .500 S&W shoots a larger round, the Desert Eagle will be just as popular because it is semi-auto. The ears of those who don't own guns perk up when I tell them I have a Desert Eagle. And it seems to me that they are more enamored with an autoloader than a revolver. They believe mistakenly that firing a semi-auto pistol is faster than a revolver. (And if it were true, it wouldn't matter much if you don't hit what you're aiming at anyway.)

In movies, the Desert Eagle is probably used simple because it fills more of the screen than say a 1911.

Lara can carry WHATEVER SHE WANTS.. and she makes them look oh so good..

Err..
oh, yeah, DE's..

Yeah?? How do you CCW a DE and not get made?

Hmmmm

You know, I ask the same question of the 'Full-Size 1911' crowd...I'm sure they answer has something to do with this mythical thing known as a 'Good Belt' :p

Truthfully, since the bad-guys are always well dressed in Italian Suits, I'm sure the answer lies somewhere in the realm of good tailoring, and proper dressing.

Truthfully, CCw'ing a Deagle would not be ideal or comfortable but... A young small statured fella had one at the range and I played with it some. I was able to conceal and draw it relatively easily from my size 50 Coronado jacket that a certain Wookie sold me. Truly an amazing carry garment, I balanced it out with a 1911 in the other pocket and walked around the store a little bit with no visible printing. To do this long you'd get a sore neck, but they can be concealed. The gun was a . 50AE with pimpville deluxe gold Ti finish.

The list is magnum researches, not mine. but according to the gods of the search engines, it's a julie brown direct to video comedy.
