Saw a Ferret at a car show this weekend. Completely street legal (well, except for the MG). Cool ride!

Yep they are. my friends m-114 with the lahti is street legal too, it's considered a four door v8 cadillac on the registration. it has a 289, three top hatches and the back hatch, and was made by a division of cadillac!

Ridiculous question. If you can design what you want, then what you should want is an Abrams.

Old station wagon. Rip out the current engine, slap in a very powerful dependable one. Add cage around engine or some extra protection. Add extra armor to the inside of the panelling. Chop the top, but keep it intact. Add rollcage. Replace all the glass with armorer glass, if possible rig so they can easier collapse or be removed. If armorered glass is too expensive or not available, use a strong safety glass.

Brace the top, and rig it so it can be replaced over the rollcage without the roll cage being obvious. Preferably done with pins or easily removed bolts. Hey, I wanna be warm during the winter and dry during the rain. Plus, less attention.

Lift the body a bit (not so much that it's painfully obvious), and add heavy duty suspension. Best shocks available. Cut thick sheet metal to cover the bottem of the vehicle, brace well. Add cage and armor around fuel tank. Preferably add a second fuel tank as well. If possible, add a sleeve around fuel line.

Replace front and rear bumpers with something discreet as possible, and very very strong.

There ya go. A cheap, dependable, and DISCREET technical. No one is likely to give it more than a glance from a distance, and it doesn't scream for attention. I figure you could build such a vehicle for no more than $40k, depending on materials and providing your own manpower. Two people facing the rear, two covering the sides, two in the front looking forward.

Plus, if you ugly up the appearance enough, you'd have to pay someone to steal it.
