I WANT TO MAKE THE MOST OUT OF ONE OF THREE UPPER RECEIVERS I OWN BY HAVING ONE CONVERTED TO SOMETHING SIMILAR TO A, D.M.R.

BECAUSE OF DISABILITIES RECEIVED IN THE LINE OF DUTY I MUST MAKE IT AS LIGHT AS POSSIBLE BUT STILL RETAIN THE ACCURACY OF A D.M.R.

TO THOSE KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE SUBJECT, THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS COME TO MIND;

1. Who's the best gunsmith to go to.

2. Are my choices of a lothar/Walther Barrel and P.R.I. Gen 3 Round Carbon fiber free float forearm with minimal rails good choices to start?

SUGGESTIONS WELCOME!

3.

JUST GET A NAME BRAND AR WITH A FREE FLOAT TUBE, GOOD GLASS, AND SIGHT IT IN WITH SOME 75 GRAIN BULLETS. Turn you caps lock off and search Mr. Google for twist rates and such. You could also ask the guys at AR15.com for a good DRM recipe.

Edit: Im sorry I typed what I did. Thank you for what you have done for all of us. I am sorry to hear you were hurt protecting my freadom and I thank you for your service (the least I can do).
Try to find a 20 inch pencil barrel with a lo-pro gas block and a free float *TUBE*. Match up with a good trigger pack, flat top upper, good scope, ace stock (light weight) and all the junk you will need to have it in the Calviet Union.

Plus 1 on what fatcat4620 stated. Keep it simple with good parts and you'll be a happy camper. It's real easy to get wrapped around the axle on this and end up with a 14lb rifle with lots of $$ invested. If your thinking a REPER (rapid engagement precision rifle) for coyotes then a medium SS free float barrel, good trigger, good glass and the stock that suits you will work fine.
Thanks for your service.

Noveske makes a light profile SPR rifle called the Rogue Hunter. It's exactly what you are looking for. Check out their website.

Free float tube, light weight (thin or carbon sheath) *good* barrel - 16" (because that saves you more weight), flat top rail should be your only real rail for your optic. Good trigger, pistol grip that fits your hand. Stock that fits you.

Lothar/Walther barrel should be GTG. PRI makes good stuff, so that should do for your fore end tube.

Myself, I built a carbine that weighs 5.6lbs, 7lbs with full mag. Not a DMR, though. It has a 16" pencil barrel - so much weight is saved right there. Mine has a standard A2 upper (carry handle) because I did not and do not want an optic on it. If I wanted an optic, like I said, M4 upper would be the biggest change I would make, along with the free-float tube fore end.

Then, just matching ammo to weapon. Not too complicated of a build.

Well there are a couple of fairly general formats you could go for. There's the Recce style, 16" barrel, typically somewhat heavy profile, there's the SPR, typically 18", again probably a medium-heavy profile, or you could go 20" A4-style, basically just a flat-topped fixed-stocked rifle with whatever profile you want.

Lighter barrels aren't neccessarily less accurate, they just heat up quicker. They also cool down quicker, so for a pure 'DMR' type of rifle, that may be better than a heavy-barreled pure target profile.
