I just got some Badger grips for my Det Spc (a lot easier of the second finger knuckle than before) but I have a question.
The front sight picks up any light and washes out, ruining the sight picture, where can I get some "sight black"? I don't want to do anything to the front sight like serrating it because I really like this gun a lot.

Birchwood Casey makes a flat black paint pen for just that purpose. Works fine when it's 'fresh', but not very durable. Washes off with nearly any solvent. It also comes in orange and white.

Testor's flat black enamel paint for plastic models works better. Still doesn't hold up to some solvents, but lasts longer than you'd expect. There are other matte colors if you want to experiment.

FWIW, sights are the main reason that I carry my S&W 640 instead of my DS. The serrations hold the paint better and don't wash out in bright or dim light.

Concerning the DS and sighting with it. I had POI that kept moving due to the front sight. Did this on two different samples. Traded away to excellent DSes due to sight wash out. Lucky enough to recently find a Colt Cobra 74 year of manufacture. Put the Badger grips that you have on it and then took it to a gunsmith and had him put an orange insert in the front sight.

I figured if you're going to carry this gun for real you have to see the front sight whether aimed fire or point shooting. Enjoy your DS a great testimony to what American craftsmanship used to be.
