Hey guys, just wondering if you guys know of any, or are members of any gun clubs with private ranges in the general Detroit area. Never had any experience with clubs myself, just wondering what's out there and what to expect.

Thanks

What kind of "club" are you looking for ? Something specific, or just a range ? What type shooting are you into ?

A range, along with maybe some cool people too. I'm into anything guns, pistols, rifles, shotgun, cannons...whatever. Cannons especially sound fun but that's just a dream. It would be nice to find someplace with a 200-300 yd range for when I finally give in and spend a couple thousand on a rifle.

For general range information you can go to www.wheretoshoot.org and find ranges in your area that fit your criteria. Outdoor ranges are getting harder to find around here, most will have a maximum range of 100 yds. or less. Eastside has Peters gun Range on Gratiot. Downriver has Wolverine (my preferance) and Top Gun. There are also private ranges and clubs that may have some access to the public.

My favorite spot to go shooting is the range at Chelsea rod ad gun club, out in chelsea, michigan. 50, 100, and 200 yard range. There is an annual membership fee and probation period. But there are lots of friendly people and they do many weekly activities every month. Only downside is the location is not quite detoit. Other than that I go to island lake or bald mountain to shoot but it's only out to 100 yards there. Mishoot.com I think is the link.

Guys, that's just not right. Lived there over ten years and never shot anybody, even though I was the tailgunner on a Budweiser truck....

Seriously, it ain't that bad. I have been more worried on country roads in Kentucky....

top gun in taylor is a nice once. cheapest range time i've found. you can use your own handgun ammo, as long as it's not steel core. they charge $13/hour or $9/half hour.

firing line in westland charges more for range time, $17/hour, and they can be very rude there too.

action impact in southfield has the nicest range, but i think it's like $18/hour.

not sure about the northern suburbs.

What area? Northeast of the D along I 94 is Blue Water Sportsman Assoc. All kinds of sport shooting. Rifle, pistol, cowboy action, trap, skeet, indoor rimfire.

The Detroit Sportsmen's Congress (DSC) was founded in Detroit Michigan in 1936 for the purpose of promoting better hunting and fishing within the state.

At its present location since 1948 the DSC occupies 106 acres on Dequindre road between M-59 and 23 mile road in Shelby Township.

The Dequindre property is the location of our range facilities and we offer Junior programs in Archery, Rifle, Shotgun and Pistol

At the same location you will find the office and clubhouse, with a full service members-only bar and kitchen.

The DSC also has a 190 site Camping facility on Horseshoe Lake in Oxford. Campsites are available to members during the camping season (April thru October)

Our Education Committee offers various classes that are open to members and members of the community.

Thanks for all the info guys! I'll look in to some of those.

Have to say, in my opinion, Detroit is a DISASTER! Lived in the 'burbs all my life and I don't even cross the city limits into detroit anymore, just not worth it, nothing to offer anyway. It's too bad. Last time I checked there were something like 2-3 homicides EVERY DAY in the city, and countless other violent crimes.

Club with range

Indoor pistol, Outdoor pistol, 100yd rifle, 200yd rifle, skeet, trap, sporting clays. Archery, slinghot (Kids), .22, horse-shoes, baseball diamonds; you get the picture! 60 acre fishing lake too! Bar/ Restaurant. Good people.

Multi-Lakes Conservation Club, Walled Lake.

oh yeah, there's island lakes right behind kensington state part in milford too.

it's really cheap, has a outdoors rifle, pistol, and skeet range. only thing is you often have to wait for a lane to open up.

DSC is an excellent range. Had a membership out there years ago but with the road construction and traffic it wasn't a convenient location. I'm a member at a range near Ypsilanti now. About the same distance but half the travel time straight out I-94.
