I know there have been plenty of forums and threads over this gun but my question mostly relies on how reliable the gun is completely. I know it's particular about the ammo used in it. For those who have put this gun through its paces what are your review on it when it comes to reliability? how many times has a malfunction occurred and what was the cause of it? What ammo also has been found to work the best? (bullet weight and brand name as well) Thanks for all the help
 
I think 99% of the threads I see on Diamond Back guns, on all sorts of gun forums, are all negative. Many report sending the gun back more than once, and just giving up on it.

From what I have read, the few positive comments are far, far, far outnumbered by the negatives....
 
The DB9 seems very redundant to me, since there are already better alternatives out there in the same price range - Kel-Tec PF-9 (good), Ruger LC9 (better), and Kahr CM9(best).

In the rare instance I do hear of one working, I have to wonder just how well it will hold up over time.
 
Two identical firearms with serial numbers only one number different, may or may not both be reliable. Some firearms manufacturers or firearm models are more reliable or less reliable than others.

If you have a concerns about the reliability of a specific manufacturer, or specific model of firearm, maybe you shouldn't buy it.

Two identical and presumed reliable firearms may have different accuracy/reliability results with the same box of ammunition. Asking what results others have experienced may not have much to do with what you experience. Whatever firearms you buy, you need to find the specific ammunition brand and type that the individual firearm is accurate and reliable when firing.
 
All evidence indicates that major parts on these guns are severely underengineered. Stuff breaks on these guns after only a handful of rounds (sometimes within the first magazine even after being repaired) that should never break in a firearm's lifetime of tens of thousands of rounds. The design of these pistols is severely flawed at its core, and there is no fixing it. It's not even a matter of quality control. It's that the parts physically cannot handle the load they're being asked to withstand. And it's not even the punishment of recoil. Things like the trigger bar just break, and that is not a wear part and should never need to be replaced in the gun's lifespan. All the force it's asked to hold up to is the act of pulling the trigger, and it cannot handle even that. There is no fixing these guns. There's just not enough meat in the critical components for them to be reliable.
 
I recommend the diamondbacktalk forum. A lot of good stuff there. A lot of happy customers, and a lot of unhappy customers. But a lot people have figured out some quick fixes. Like the mag mod, which I did, and have been problem free ever since. Also, it looks like the company may have switched out some of the trigger parts on newer models. You'll find that on most forums, people REALLY like to talk about how awful these pistols are, but most of them have never owned one. Do your own research and talk to other owners. Personally, I have had good luck with their customer service(most do), and my DB9 is flawless after the mag mod. My DB380 had a bunch of rounds through it, and the trigger broke. I sent it in, and a few weeks later, I received a brand new gun. It has also been flawless since I've had it. Again, these are my results.
 
I have a Diamondback DB9 and have also modified the Crimsontrace laser to fit and work with it and mine has been flawless with no problems. God Bless :)
 
I was eyeing this gun for a while up until Hickok put it through its paces, and it failed IMO. I know it wasnt a torture test, but it's enough for me to look elsewhere.

I love my LCP, but was looking at different pocket 9mm just for the heck of it. I'll stick with my LCP. No issues from tat little bad boy. ;)
 
Hickok only had a slight malfunction that could have been caused by several things.
That being said from my own personal experience with DB if he had kept on shooting it I am quite sure it would have suffered a catastrophic failure like mine and most others have.
From my experience those who say their DB has been great have just not shot it enough for it to break.
I said the same thing once and soon there after mine fell apart and the complete pistol was replaced and the replacement suffered the same trigger bar malady around shot # 420.
They will either figure out the MIM parts are not going to hold up and make a change or they will go out of business.

+1 this seems to be the experience of most DB owners. Kahr CM9 is the way to go.:cool:
 
I still have my DB 380 but will not carry it any longer due to it's unpredictable reliability issues.
I did buy a PM9 and an LCP and both have been absolutely flawless.
How does the old saying go?...Oh yea,If I knew then what I know now...:banghead:
Well I did learn a few things.:rolleyes:
