so i have been carrying my LCR in my pocket for a few weeks now and out of all my pants my Dickies cargo pocket pants and shorts are a pain in the rump to keep the gun in a descent possition and on top of that the pockets seam to be too tight to my body to even attempt to draw from the pocket

anyone else had this problem?

will a pocket holster help or just get different pants?

i have a pair of black propper BDUs that have no problem at all and several other types of pants and shorts that dont hang up so easily

btw the pants are already one size too big and im not sinching two sizes up in my belt and looking like a hobo just to pocket carry

ive been looking into a few different pocket holsters the DeSantis Nemesis and a Don Hume 001 do you think either will help?

I wear dickies work pants (no cargo pockets) alot. I sometimes pocket carry S&W 642/442 using the mika pocket holster. It seems to work ok for me but I've been thinking of trying a nemesis just to see if it's any better. I think a pocket holster of some kind is necessary if you carry in that method.

I like cargo pants for comfort and easy draw from my Mika pocket holster. I always carry when trying on a new pair of shorts or pants just to make sure they are compatiable.

Personally, I believe it is a mistake to pocket-carry without a holster. You will be much safer and have a much safer and consistent draw with one.

JohnnyC, I respectfully disagree. I don't use a pocket holster, but doesn't mean I've not tried a few. I've found through my experience that I can draw & present faster with a firm grip with my pocket pistols than using a holster.
As far as the argument about lint, dirt, etc. interfering with the pistol's function IMHO is greatly overblown....
BTW, I use Dickies 5-pocket shorts in the summer and they are great!:)
How do you keep it from flopping around 180 deg in your pocket? What prevents your finger from entering the trigger guard while in your pocket? OUCH!
With tight pockets..Muzzle down, stays down...I only carry one model in my pocket w/o a holster: heavy PPK w/safety. I don't worry so much about the trigger guard as using the my thumb to flick the safety upwards where it is in reverse to many other models. Anyway, it works for me. If I was using the baggy cargo pant-pockets, might be another story...

NEMESIS best pocket holster for the money .BAD JU JU. carrying without a holster.

I have been carrying my Taurus 850 CIA in the front pocket of my Wranglers carpenters jeans. Nice baggy fit, snub disappears, stays in position well. Still have a Mika pocket rig inbound, will try that too, but check out these jeans, low key, lots of pockets, fit and wear great.

Use a pocket holster to keep the gun oriented in the proper position - to not do so, while some may say is OK, is asking for trouble when you need to react quickly....if you can't draw from your pocket quickly, then look at a IWB holster

why I carry in a pocket holster... Everyone's pockets are dirty. full of sand and lint and I personally I have no desire to clean a gun every day simply because of a dirty pocket. I have seen more than one person bring a gun in with a complaint of jamming only to find it is full of sand lint and other crap that could have been easily avoided. Not to mention, it keeps the gun in a better draw position (if you are wearing tight pants to keep the gun in position, you are kind of defeating the purpose of pocket carry) "is that a gun in your pocket or are..... you get the idea.... its called printing my friends. A good pocket holser keeps the gun clean, in a good position to be drawn, can be argued as safer, and breakes any residual outline of the gun. it only makes sense to find a good pocket holster that works for your gun and situation.

+1 I agree completely

The Nemesis cost a whopping $17, I'd pick one up (or another holster if you prefer).

That said, I find some pants are simply not well suited to pocket carry.

I realize that an unsolicited opinion doesn't have a lot of value. But. Guns need holsters. It's not a matter of getting your gun out quick. The holster is a basic safety aid, like a trigger-guard. I'll concede you need one for a Glock more than for a DA revolver, but there's no downside in either case.

Depends on how your pants are cut, I've tried a ton of pocket holsters from bargain basement to pricey and they all add some bulk to a 642 that I don't care for.

Anyhoot, I'd say in the OP's case it's just a matter of your pants. Some work and some don't. My Carhart's never present a problem, my Dickies shorts do. Everythings cut a little differently.

It means alot to me...I'll repeat, too much emphasis on lint, dirt, et. The finger in the trigger guard??....my pistol has a safety lever...

+ 1 I can attest to this....I wonder what types of pants some of you wear that can accommodate a holster & firearm? Walking around like Omar the Tent-Maker isn't for me and still be able to withdraw your piece in an expedient manner...I've seen some pistoleros almost yank the whole damn holster trying to extract their weapon.
Last night, seated and eating in a restarurant, I realized how difficult it would be to draw out my pistol from SS pocket while sitting. In a holster, would it be compounded more? I bring this up because of a shooting (teen worker killed) in Albuquerque (Denny's) packed with people during breakfast hour.
Anyway, instead of argueing about the best carry method; I urge all members who are licensed to make sure you CARRY your piece in some fashion while out and about. Too many scum-bags out there looking for quick cash with no regard to human-life..
Regards...
