A friend bought an old revolver from an acquaintance recently. I have never heard of this particular model and I'm looking for info from the more knowledgeable revolver aficionados here at THR.

It is a Dickson Model Cheyenne .38 Special with the serial number 27XXX.

Another question that has undoubtedly been covered here before:

How does one go about checking if a firearm is "hot"? Anything purchased FTF might be a stolen gun. Do you ask the seller for the serial number and ask the police to check their data bank? Or do you mind your own business and decide if it's worth the risk without the check?

Without a picture and a listing of all markings, all that can be done is guess. Dickson was a name used on imports of German made firearms manufactured by Herbert Weihrauch ( Arminus ). Your revolver should have Made in West Germany somewhere on it. You may also find HW in a circle down around the grips. With out a picture I don't have the foggiest what model. In reference to "hot guns " . That is a problem, you might check with your local police but if it is from another state then nothing will show up.
