Cheers,

Cabelas 2006 Shooting Catalog, pg 68.

10/22 Gatling Gun Kit - converts 2 -10/22 actions into a "four rounds per crank revolution LEGAL Gatling Gun.

Just looking at the picture in the 'log - I could probably mount an electric motor to the frame with just a little "jury rigging" and making it - no, I'm NOT going to go there!

I DON'T own one, pretty sure that I never will, but it sure stirs the imagination!

I've seen 50 round drums for the 10/22 and you can get the rifle in .22Mag.

I can just see the newspaper article - "gangsta car shoots up whole neighbor hood - TWO blocks long!"

I believe that "Biker" and I would be friends if we ever met - so I just GOTTA do this: "Biker, I'll see your paint ball gun for kitty control, and raise you another barrel."

And NO, I don't shoot cats - except with my pellet gun, 10 pumps, no pellet and the "snap" makes them jump about 3 feet in the air as their little feet dig for traction.

Guess I'll stir the pot here - I shoot a lot on "open days" at the range - when every wierdo gun owner comes out and shoots. These people SCARE me! If one of them showed up with this thing, my first impulse would be to run, my second would be to just "remove" them as a future problem, and what I'd probably do is tell the RO that either they remove them from the range or the first time this "weapon" swung "off of down range", I am going to end the problem forever.

I'll bet it isn't legal in Hawaii - or won't be for long!!!

Gentle winds - and Biker, sorry, but I just HAD to do it!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a .22 Magnum variant?

Would this avoid the machinegun rules? AFAIK, the law over there specifies a machinegun as a gun that fires more than one bullet per action of the trigger.

Would this get around it by having a crank, and not a trigger?

This is not a machine gun.

The crank turns a cam, and each of the lobes on the cam will depress the trigger once as it comes around. Each time the trigger is depressed, only one round is fired.

That last bit is the key.

Put a motor on it though, and you have a machine gun - the switch for the motor becomes your trigger.

So somebody you don't like showing up with a certain type of gun on the range would cause you to go to the RO and insist they be removed, and to make threats of what you'll do to them if they happen to behave in a certain way? Maybe you should just come right out and tell the RO that you don't think he's capable of doing his job, and that you're there to tell him how.

Most of the ROs I've met are very receptive to this sort of thing. Really.

crashresidue...

I used to live on Oahu in Wahiawa. Went to Leilehua high and have fond memories (allegedly;) ) of that local pocololo.
I left in Jan 1973 to join the Army.
I've always wanted to score up one of those 10/22 Gatling guns. That looks like nothing but fun.

I've been working on a 250-500 round preloaded/disposable drum mag for this .22LR Gatling gun. Unfortunately, the market is too small for this to become a commercial reality. :( You could clear a thicket of saplings with a thousand rounds and a gentle turn of the wrist.:D

Can anyone tell me why they insist on calling this thing a Gatling gun? It's just two semi-auto actions with crank operated triggers. A Gatling would have to have manually operated actions and rotating barrels.

Because they think it sounds cool? Hey, marketing is marketing. Ad copy doesn't actually have to MEAN anything or be ACCURATE to be useful for sales.

Personally, I think those things look like tons of fun. Very little to no practical use...But fun anyway.

I'd love to have one. Is it a company that builds them or are there plans available to do-it-yourself? I'd be interested in knowing more about this. Neat looking stuff.

As soon as you attach an electric motor to it the on/off switch becomes the 'trigger' and you have an unregistered machinegun.

These cranks are sort of a gray area, each complete revolution of the crank will fire off multiple rounds, but if you count each 1/4 or 1/8 of a turn as a 'function of the trigger' and each click fires only 1 shot the ATF seems to think it is ok.
