Did the Senate vote to close the so called "Gun Show Loophole"

The gun maker immunity bill was voted down, and along with it an attempt to renew the AWB as an amendment.

But read this foxnews.com article:

And look at these two quotes from the article:

The Senate also voted 53-46 to require background checks (search) of purchasers buying guns at private shows

"Today's Senate vote to close the gun show loophole is a victory for common sense ... Americans will be safer when this sensible proposal becomes law," McCain said.


So was this vote to close the gunshow loophole just an amendment that died when the gun maker immunity suit died? or is it a whole seperate bill that passed today?
