Did you get your NRA fighting knife?

Well let's all stop contributing to the NRA because they have crappy knives.

You seriously want the NRA spending it's budget, in an election year, on fancy giveaway crap?

Screw the Second Amendment.

Oh, yeah, Texas Rifleman, they should have bought a KABAR or Benchmade, instead. Ya, know, a knife that costs the same as one or two yearly memberships...

Jeez, pancho- promotional items are always the cheapest stuff, just to be able to send something. They always have been. I don't send in checks to organizations for their stuff that they send out. Of course, if the offer of "free knife" spurs memberships, that's fine with me.

Honestly, though, I wouldn't mind if they didn't send out any promo items, instead, offering quality items with the NRA logo for purchase.

I don't want them to spend my money on anything bogus like that ignorant knife.

Having volunteered for a non profit in the past, you would not BELIEVE how many people respond to that crap.

You'd be shocked really.

$1000 in crappy throw away knives can bring in 8, 10 grand in donations.

You really would be shocked.

You think the Girl Scouts just like cookies? And those are good cookies, the margins are just "OK".
The margins on 2 dollar gimmes is impressive.

Sure it's unfortunate that it takes that stuff to motivate people to donate but freebies and scare tactics work.

If groups didn't use those they would be broke in a year.

You wanna see crazy tactics look at AARP. They make NRA look like a bad joke.

People, in general, are lazy and unresponsive. The idea in this kind of stuff is "Fear or Free".
Look at all the groups soliciting donations and you will see that, Fear or Free.

Sending me a promotional item to make me a better member is like preaching to the choir. I don't want anything except being listed as a member in good standing of the NRA , a large organization that promotes what I believe. I especially don't want them sending me chinese crap that they spent my money on.

I especially don't want them sending me chinese crap that they spent my money on.

Again, you are the rare one. The large percentage of members respond to that stuff. It's a calculated gamble, and in the end it works.

Look at any of them, Lung Association, AARP, NRA, Kidney whatever. They all have to resort to that.

Look at Salvation Army. They have to pay people to ring that bell in front of Target to make their yearly contributions.

Fear or Free, in that case it's Fear of going to hell, looking like a cheapskate, whatever.

It's always the same tactics in fundraising, and it works for 80 percent of the people, which of course is truly sad, but it's reality.

Listen, I understand, I really do.

How sad a statement is it on the average gun owning American that they actually think "WOW! I got a free knife!" and send in a check. Or a jacket, or hat, or whatever.

But it is a time proven method.

How many times here have we seen people complain about NRA, SAF, GOA, whoever and their junk mail offers. Same thing, if it didn't work for a majority of people it would stop.

The other one is scaring you. Scaring you into donating to AARP or your Social Security checks will just stop coming. Scaring you into donating to NRA to keep the jack boots from taking your rifles in the night.

And there is of course an element of truth, otherwise we wouldn't be scared if it wasn't possible.

Guilt works with churches too :)

Here's a thought.

You don't fight with the knife, you fight with the edge.

The knife is only used once. Either you win, and the police take it, or you die and the matter is moot.

A cheap knife with a perfect edge makes the most sense. Develope a good relationship with the sharpener in your area. :D

And I will echo what Texas Rifleman said. A cheap piece of junk, bought in quantity, will get many people to open their checkbook.

On the other hand, make plans to attend your local Friends of NRA dinner to get a shot at the quality merchandise.

Years ago, I called the NRA and told them I would give more money when I was able to but for them to take me off their calling list and junk mail list.

No phone calls, no junk mail and I give when i can.

Q: How can I reduce the amount of mail I receive from the NRA?

A: Simply email us at [email protected] or dial 800-NRA-3888 and request to be placed on the "Do Not Promote" list. This will significantly reduce the amount of mail you receive without affecting important mailings, magazine service, or your membership renewal.

YEAH! RABBLE RABBLE!!!

THEEEEY TOOOK OURRR JOBSSSSS!!!

RABBLE! RABBLE!

Ok, so I didn't get any knife. I must have missed some deadline or something. Although, I don't get why the NRA has sent me no less than 7 cards this year. That seemed like a bit of a waste of money.

(why is this in legal?)

Yeh, I renewed and didn't get my *&^%$ pocket knife. I was a little cheesed. And I don't have any more windows to smack the decals on.
I don't want to suppport the Chi-coms but free pocket knives can be chucked in the cooler, glove box, shaving kit, etc.

They can keep the baseball caps.

I'm more interested in supporting the NRA and the right to keep and bear arms than in getting stuff. Consider that knife as simply a token of your participation in carrying the load, and take pride in being among those of us who do what other gun owners should do but don't.
