Did you get your NRA fighting knife?

Did you get your "Made in China" NRA fighting knife in the mail with a request for more contributions? I generally give my best and especially this year but not this time and all because of that chinese piece of junk the NRA thought I couldn't live without.

775 posts and you haven't learned that you're not allowed to say anything bad about the NRA regardless of how stupid or screwed up the things they do are?

No, it happens in the rest of society, as well.

Last year a contingent from my church went to Thailand to teach and to baptize. Obviously, they needed money, and the trip was funded by individual contributions.

When the group returned, they gave each contributor a small gift from Thailand as a momento and a "thank you."

And you know, they got the same criticism.

People felt that all of the money should have been spent on the main focus of the mission. I happened to know one of the elders on the trip, and he assured me that these gifts had no real value at all.

For example, my wife gave them two hundred dollars. We got handmade wallets made from jungle leaves.

Every heroic move brings detractors.

I just got a renewal for the National Park Conservation Association. Joining entitles you to some knicknacks, but there is a box to check on the form if you want them to keep the stuff and just put all of your money towards the cause. Maybe the NRA has a similar option?

Oh no, they gave me a knife. Clearly they do not represent my interests anymore because I am not interested in knives. All I care about is guns. Maybe if they sent me that Barrett I always wanted I would continue giving them money.... maybe...

"I don't want them to spend my money on anything bogus like that ignorant knife. I want them spending my money on supporting my rights."

Okay, let's talk about this serious issue. The facts are quite simple. NRA dues cannot, by federal law, be used for lobbying and such. IT'S THE LAW. That's why there is an NRA-ILA and an NRA-PVF. The L in ILA is Legislative and the P in PVF is Political.

That's why those groups send their own requests for money. For political purposes. They cannot use our dues for political purposes.

Simple and straightforward.

Giving a little gift encourages the recipient to give more to the giver... it's a really old psch trick that works very well. That's why you get address labels from charity in the mail. The NRA is making money off giving people knives. I'm okay with that.
