i remember reading that the last firing squad execution in the us (utah 1996 i believe) was selected death of the prisoner

it was a legal option of his i think his choices were lethal injection the gas chamber or firing squad

if i had to (hopefully i wont) id pick firing squad since i dont plan on ever commiting a murder it would probably be something involving an uprising and the execution of a prisoner of war :) id pick firing squad it leaves you with a bit of honor just seams like a more dignified way of dieing

the .30-30 is a good round for it powerful with a good sized bullet

i read once that during the design period for the .45acp they used it for executions to determin the effects on the human body by the round read that they would even miss on purpose to see what a not immediatly fatal shot would do

Rubbish. The punishment is death, not the method of execution. Cruel punishments are specifically prohibited by the Constitution.

This comment is rubbish. You mean to tell me that being put to sleep would be harder than spending the rest of your life in prison??? Sorry, if we are going to kill the idiot then he should die a horrible death. If I was sentenced to life without parole and knew that I would die in prison without the possibility of ever getting out, might as well just kill me now so I dont have to spend 40, 50, 60 years in that hell hole. Timothy McVeigh is a perfect example of this. There are also alot of things our Constitution prohibits but doesnt stop our Government from getting away with crap.

let the choice be made by the killer---

how he killed is how he dies

hard to call the method cruel or inhumane if that exactly how he did it.

While I was tdy in the mid 90s in Saudi I witness a double be-header. Weird, strange and not as messy as you would think. Two drug dealers were executed in front of the main Mosque. The condemned where held blindfold and shackled in an ambulance during the 2 hours of preaching and prayers, then after their heads were removed with a sword by a very tall skinny guy in a Black thobe and their remains viewed by a Prince, they where loaded back into the same ambulances. Then two TCN came out and hosed the blood into a drain and that was it. A few weeks later we where banned from going to the show... Aim High

In Nigeria executions are held at the local socker field. The condemned have used tires stacked over them, and then the tires are set on fire.

As far as I am concerned, if you are proven 100% guilty (DNA) testing or something along those lines then you should be taken out to the steps of the courthouse infront of the media and spectators and shot in the head right there. No waiting, no appeals, no BS. Just my 2cents

What I find interesting is most people on here are against the government from regulating guns (for very good reasons might I add) however many people on here seem to support the death penalty. The interesting thing is the death penalty involves the state taking away a life, which is the biggest thing that can be taken away from anyone. I am surprised more of you are against the government having the power to legally take a life as punishment, even more so since there have been many so called concrete cases that ended up being thrown out.

Gary Gilmore had the choice of electrocution, hanging and firing squad. He chose firing squad and when asked why he didn't choose electrocution he said, "F'ers might not electrocute me right." When asked why not hanging he said, "F'ers might not hang me right." I guess since he knew the firing squad came from the public and not the prison system he figured those f'ers would shoot him right.
