DOJ has the authority to conduct an annual security and safe storage inspection, and verify the assault weapon inventory, of any individual, firm or corporation that possesses a permit to own or possess an assault weapon. Section 12289.5(a). Permit holders that maintain an inventory of fewer than five assault weapons devices are subject to such DOJ inspections only once every five years. Section 12289.5(b).

not here they do not. The feds have no authority to enter my house, without probable cause for anything. period.

I'm wondering in what states you have to have an "assault weapons permit"

Illinois? Maryland?

California Penal Code

Yup, its at the bottom of the page. Its for my own good, living with my wife alone, both low key types. We must be certain the guns are suitably contained and coralled to prevent an escape and random violence committed by untethered firearms.

12289.5. (a) Except as provided in subdivision (b), the Department of Justice shall, for every person, firm, or corporation to whom a permit is issued pursuant to this article, annually conduct an inspection for security and safe storage purposes, and to reconcile the inventory of assault weapons.

(b) A person, firm, or corporation with an inventory of fewer than five devices that require any Department of Justice permit shall be subject to an inspection for security and safe storage purposes, and to reconcile inventory, once every five years, or more frequently if determined by the department.

What is assault weapon?

A 96 page PDF deciphering just that:

Category 3. Generic Characteristics
As of January 1, 2000, Senate Bill 23 (Chapter 129, Statutes of 1999) provided that firearms that have characteristics
falling under any of the categories listed in Penal Code section 12276.1 are assault weapons. These
assault weapons were controlled as of January 1, 2000, and must have been registered as assault weapons with
the Department of Justice on or before December 31, 2000. However, a person arrested for possession of an
unregistered Category 3 assault weapon on or before December 31, 2001 could have registered it under conditions
specified in Penal Code section 12280(c) pursuant to reducing the charge to an infraction. On and after
January 1, 2002, the only legal option for Category 3 assault weapons that are not registered is to surrender
them to law enforcement pursuant to Penal Code section 12288. An exception for peace officers is addressed on next page.

An "assault rifle" is a military rifle capable of full auto or selective fire. An "assault weapon" is any d**m thing the Brady bunch don't like at the moment and want to ban you from owning.

I own an AK-47,

and love it, but if I had to assault anything significant, I'd want something a lot stouter. And a suitably armored vehiclew to transport it.
