I have the opportunity to buy a Benelli Super Black Eagle and am not sure the difference between
Models 1, 2, or 3. It does not have any camo. It comes with 28 inch shotgun and slug barrels and 3.5 inch chamber. Going to look at it this week. Seller is asking $800 and claims it is less than 10 years old. What should I look for as in model and age and is there any serial number references to check on date of manufacture? I know the seller and the gun is in 90% to 95% condition.

I'll answer my own question. I found a chart that lists date of manufacture based on a beginning letter code which indicates the gun in question was made in 2005.
I saw the gun up close and it has the enlarged trigger guard, 3, tri-crea coated choke bushings, matte black epoxy finish on a synthetic Comfort Tech stock with shortened forearm and 3.5 inch chamber which makes it a Super Black Eagle II. According to Blue Book of Gun Values at 90% or better, the gun is worth just over $1,000. Of course, I could also add inflation of 15%.

I had a Super Black Eagle II and a buddy bought a SBE III. The major difference to me was the angle of the grip. The SBE II had a more traditional angle and the SBE III had a more pronounced pistol angle. Other than that they seemed extremely similar. Both a terrific shotguns. FWIW, I liked the SBE III slightly better due to the feel of the grip. I’ve never held an SBE I for comparison.
