Rented a PERFORMANCE CENTER Model SW1911 at the range today - what a joy to shoot. Only the second time I've used a 1911, and the last time was in the 90s with a beat up range rental which was literally my first pistol experience. Ready to throw my Ruger P95 in the trash - my groups at the same distance closed up from 8" to less than 3" going from my 9mm to the rental 45. Apart from that rental experience in the 90s, I've only been a pistol shooter for 3 years, so it was incredibly reassuring to see I was capable of actually shooting tight groups with a semi auto, and kinda makes me sick to think about how much 9mm I've put downrange yet had resigned to labeling myself as forever mediocre with pistol. I guess working on my technique forever trying to close up those saucer sized groups paid off once I had the right gun in my hand!
Anyway, the SW1911 is out of my price range at a quoted price of $1399 plus tax - but the E Series seems to be available sub $800 which is doable. What are the differences between these pistols? All I've noted is the Performance version has target sights, slide porting for weight reduction, a magwell and different grips. Any other fundamental differences other than those?
